hah yknow what i just remembered?? back when season ¾ of voltron were coming out a lot of talk was going on about who the next black paladin should be as if that position was the end-all be-all of character importance

and a lot of posts decrying keith as a bad team player and leader went around and one of the points they gave out was how keith sent the team over that cliff in the first episode with no warning because it proved him to be reckless and untrustworthy

and remembering that is hilarious now because guess who taught him that trick? shiro, and he didnt even teach him, he all but dared this inexperienced little hothead into following him over the edge without actually telling him what the trick to not dying was

the only reason keith wasnt killed straight up or sent to the emergency room was because he himself braked and was like hold up maybe not the best idea

like first let me get it out that while i think alluras actions were wrong, and in the show itself the issue was resolved by her changing her thinking, i completely understand the emotional journey shed have to go through to essentially have her ‘side’ in the war, her safe space, invaded by what shes cleanly considered the enemy up til now

but the comparison just doesnt work!

has it not been established that telling people of mixed ethnicity that theyre ‘basically white’ or equating them with whiteness is a Bad Thing to do when they themselves may be on the receiving side of oppression and aggressions from white people? sure, keith hasnt grown up suffering galra-specific oppression, but he is in danger from them, and hes treated just like any other non-galra fighting against the empire- hes not given any kind of advantage due to his heritage. hes not in the oppressor group.

and, of course, the fact that he had no knowledge of his galran blood takes him out of this comparison entirely! he hasnt grown up in an environment where the galrans actions are normalized, where he could have pick up even subconscious racism; hes hasnt grown up in an environment where the galra empire exists at all!

if were going with the original comparison, keith (/those criticising alluras actions) isnt a man telling women ‘not all men!’, hes a non-man living his entire life with no knowledge of men and not believing he is a man and then suddenly being told that he is a man, and that he’s ‘just like all men’ and being expected to act like a group of people that up til now, hes felt nothing but unsafe or hatred around.

its not black or white- allura has an understandable negative emotional reaction that is hurtful and inaccurate and works through her issues and realizes that keith has nothing to do with the empire that murdered her people.

shiro got that chest/waist ratio~, keith got them thighs~, lance got that ass~, hunk got them arms~, and pidge got that brain~

together they form the legendary defender voltron

just gotta say… if matt and keith are wearing the garrison cadet uniforms at the same time just before matt leaves for kerberos, but shiros wearing the senior uniform and the handbook says that matt graduated from the garrison ‘along with shiro’, then that strongly points to

1, along with shiro doesnt mean in the same graduating year, unless matt was a very young-looking 24-25 year old, or graduated early because of his aptitude?

2, matt and keith cant be more than a couple of years different in age if the garrison follows a university/specialized school format of 3-4 years

3, keith probably wasnt in lance’s/hunk’s/later, pidge’s ‘graduating year’ and only shared a couple of classes with them
