I’d like to highlight this part. Pidge is a MF beast. She is pragmatic to a fault and she prepares for literally ANY eventuality. This reminds me of the comics where Pidge says essentially the same thing:

I’m glad they brought that aspect of her character to the foreground in the actual show, I think it’s fascinating

And it’s not that she’s cold or unfeeling or suspicious towards her team either; she straight up admits it’s a bizarre thing to do in the comics

And in the show she says she never thought she’d have to use it, it seemed to legitimately pain her to have to do what she did. Not to mention that she couldn’t actually bring herself to lay a hand on Shiro when he first went rogue. She does care deeply for her teammates and she’ll never intentionally harm them unprovoked 

But if the absolute worst case scenario ever happens (like in S6E5), she will take action, and she’ll be prepared and know exactly how to do it most effectively

“Shiro and I went camping, once,” Keith says quietly.

He’s always quiet. He was when he was born. Good natured, they’d said, so full of hope and all good things because he was healthy and strong. Krolia has regretted leaving him every day since. More, now. More, because he was alone. It’s a dual pain: a love lost and her child adrift. The revelation tore something out of her that taken months to heal over to a bearable pain.

Keith pushes at a log with the long stick he was using to tease the wolf earlier. He’s smiling with that soft-eyed look he gets. He was a beautiful child; he’s more beautiful now. She pictured it a thousand nights, trying to shape the way his jaw would grow and who he would take after more, and it was like trying to imagine color sightless. “He tried to teach me how to make a fire. But he sucked at it,” Keith laughs to himself. “He set his jacket on fire.”

Krolia finds a smile tugging at her mouth.

“I’m glad you had friends.”

Keith looks down and smiles and there’s red over his high cheekbones, a little dusting of it that’s so rare and so telling.

“A friend,” he says to himself.

Overall, I loved it. The second part of seasons are always more interesting, but obviously this season hit a lot of my interests. First and foremost…dad. lol Ok, Sheith. 

Well, before sheith, let’s talk about Keith. He spent time with has mama, so that’s yay, but in those two years he grew up. He grew into his confidence and leadership. He took charge when he learned of Lotor’s atrocities, Shiro’s situation…he wasn’t the stereotypical hot head everyone likes to view him as. Kudos to Keith. 

And then there is sheith. I thought this season did an amazing job showing how intimate, strong, and meaningful their relationship is. Yes, I wanted much more from the flashbacks that featured Shiro (and why the hell does young Shiro still look like a buff 20 year old dorito?), but I suppose that’s for another season. We saw Keith yet again go chasing after Shiro, even when he knew the man was in a volatile state. I’m sure he even knew he was being led into a trap after following brain washed Shiro into the wormhole. For Shiro though, the risk was worth it. Just the little things they said to one another in their epic battle spoke volumes of their relationship: ‘that’s the Keith I remember’, ‘You made a promise to me’, ‘Just let go, Keith; you don’t have to fight any more’. 

And then there is the now infamous line, “You’re my brother. I love you.”  WOW. The first I love you in this show, said from Keith, who we know to have trouble with his emotions. Those words came from deep within him. He could not stay silent, his Shiro needed to know so that hopefully the man would come back to him. I’m still a bit baffled by the fact that we got an “I love you.” The ‘you’re my brother’ line doesn’t bother me at all. Keith was relaying to Shiro how much the man means to him; Shiro is his family, his brother in arms, his closest friend. Shiro is everything he loves and he literally lets Shiro know it.

And then that gorgeous fall. Keith could have dropped Shiro and tried to save himself, but he didn’t. As he fell, he thought back on all his time with Shiro. He looked at Shiro one last time and that strengthened his resolve to try and save them both. This is nothing new for Keith though; ‘as many times as it takes’.

AND THEN the finale (after Keith hauls around a clone carcass with only a slim hope that maybe they could exercise Shiro from the black lion and shove him back in) Shiro looks just at Keith, whispers ‘you found me’ and collapses in his arms.

Sheith had a very good season.

AND THEN THERE’S DAD.

First off, I called that Shiro was wearing dad’s old clothes. So we get to chew on the fact that for all those years Keith kept his dad’s clothes for sentimental value AND he loved Shiro so much that he trusted the man with those clothes. 

We didn’t learn much about dad, but I was very happy to see him. I knew he and Krolia were in love. Still no idea what dad does (but we do see some kind of jacket hanging from the bed post that looks like it could be some sort of uniform jacket? fireman??). I still say he has garrison connections because he obviously had the skill to rebuild Krolia’s ship and he is just…way too chill with an alien landing in his back yard and banging said alien. He would break into the ship with an axe though lol

Baby Keith was adorable. Tex tucked the little guy in. So cute. 

Also…dad had the hoverbike (or so it appears) then Shiro has it, and then Keith has it. What is the deal?

But seriously, WHO TOOK THE HOUSE?!

Logic based answer: Giving Keith the two years of space was very much neccessary to his emotional development. He needed that time to both bond with his mother and do some introspective self-discovery. Before, Keith was at a place where 1) shouldering the burden of leadership and piloting the Black Lion was detrimental to his mental health, and 2) he believed his mother had never wanted him, and most of his abandonment issues stemmed from that. Allowing him the time and space to come to terms with things at his own pace, allowing him literal years of growth,, that’s invaluable. There’s so much he could have learned from his mother in that time–about being in the BOM, about being a leader, about simply being part galra. 

He was also just…given this wonderful, cozy little break for a bit. You have to remember, Keith never had a childhood. This is the universe giving Keith a break, this is Keith finally getting back that stolen time. Finally, he can have this happy little dosmetic life–complete with his mom and a dog. It’s probably the sort of thing he dreamed about as a kid. He was given 2 whole years to get to know the mom that was taken away from him, was able to come to terms with her decisions and his own. It’s a chance for self-reflection, but more than that, it’s time to heal. 

My gay heart: All of that is immeasurably important. But also, Keith has now come back a changed person, more mature–and it really shows. It’s something that “Shiro” himself takes notice of. Keith isn’t the same person he was all those years ago at the garrison. Having been given time and space to think and reflect on his past bonds–including his relationship with Shiro–he was able to come to terms with a truth that still eluded him in the BOM. 

He was able to face Shiro and say, “I love you.” Also, they’re closer in age now. At 21 and 25, a romantic interest there is even more likely. Nevermind that Keith has had two years to ruminate on the potential doomed future of Shiro, and the whole idea that “absence makes the heart grow fonder.” All of this no doubt helped him come to terms with his feelings.
