the BoM gave Keith shoes that a human would wear so he didn’t have to run around with the two-toed kind of footwear the galra wear and it makes me really happy for no dumb reason
All of BoM and Kolivan especially collectively adopted Keith
you know that scene in captain america the first avenger where captain america was being turned into the military mascot to promote war bonds? thats literally ep 4 in vld s4
Don’t think about how Keith was probably on dangerous missions while the team was throwing their plays for the people.
Don’t think about how it probably sounded like they were having a great time without him there to drag them down.
Don’t think about how he probably saw the televised play, or about how he saw the team doing just fine without him.
Don’t think about how it probably made him even more sure that they were better off with him not there.
Don’t think about how he probably thinks that they don’t care that he’s gone, considering how not one of them really tried to stop him from leaving after Shiro piloted Black again, and not one of them has asked him to come back.
Don’t think about how he didn’t bother saying goodbye probably because he thought no one would care.
Okay, I'm also 100% NOT alright w/ team voltron acting like Keith was goofing off while he was going on life or death missions w/ the BoM!! Seriously, wth!?? They KNEW what he was doing EACH TIME he was on missions! *I paid attention religiously bc I saw spoilers b4 watching* And this guilt-tripping is implied to have gone on for months! I am not ok. *& I feel like Keith's presence has a good effect on the BoM?? Or maybe it's just that we got a closer look into their ranks bc of Keith joining.
Yeah, I was kind of pissed that the other paladins didn’t seem worried about Keith at all. He was going on these extremely dangerous missions to bolster efforts against the Empire, and their response was basically “stop messing around and come help us put on shows”. There was no “gosh, I hope Keith’s okay” or “I’m really worried about him putting himself in danger like this” or even “is it a good idea for an irreplaceable paladin of voltron to be in the line of fire unnecessarily?”
Because that was the whole argument for Keith sticking around, right? That he was the rightful paladin of the Black Lion and couldn’t be replaced? So why weren’t the others worried when he was putting his life on the line?
The best answers I can think of are:
a) Keith kept them in the dark about how risky the missions were so they wouldn’t worry. Thus, they never understood that his life was on the line every time he went out there.
or
b) They knew Keith was taking dangerous missions and were worried and just weren’t handling it well. They felt like he wasn’t taking the risk to his life seriously when, in fact, Keith was taking the risk seriously but had decided that the potential gains were more important.
like, ill admit that the only thing i didnt really like about season 4 was how fast lotor and his generals felt apart, which could have been pacing issues, but i can also easily admit that we as a fandom might have over hyped their Legendary Friendship Team
Continuing the whole 'Keith leaves without a fight' topic, everyone was pissed when he wasn't around but they knew he was with Marmora. They didn't know when he would be back and were angry even though he was helping just in a different way. So... why was it completely okay and supported for Pidge to leave with the Green Lion for who knows how long to run around the galaxy and look for Matt? I love the reunion, but like.... What the heck guys.
They’re acting like he went AWOL, but he was obviously off on another mission doing important things, even if it was as a Marmora agent rather than a paladin. The only reason I can think of that would justify them being upset is if Keith went off without telling them?
I’d have to rewatch the episode to see if they say “He’s with the Blades on a mission.” or “Maybe he’s with the Blades on a mission.” or something else that would indicate that.
But oh man… The entire first episode made me hurt for Keith so bad. You had this constant back-and-forth between the happy, silly Voltron airshow stuff and Keith’s dangerous, gritty spy gig. It made the work Team Voltron was doing seem so frivolous compared to the Marmora work.
From a political standpoint, the PR events make sense. It’s a good way to drum up support and get peoples’ emotions whipped up so they’re willing to put their lives on the line when the time comes. But Keith is someone who has trouble understanding other peoples’ emotions, so these events probably seemed doubly frivolous and time-wastey to him.
So he’s out on the front lines risking his life and watching his new friends die while his old friends get pissy at him for missing promotional events. I mean… ouch. Just ouch.
Adding onto this, because I realize I got off-topic…
I feel like a lot of the reason no one got mad at Pidge was because she was doing a job no one else would or could. No one else was going to find her brother. But, as Allura pointed out to Keith, the Blades had been getting by for thousands of years without him.
Of course, this overlooks the fact that the Blades were stretched thin and their intelligence-gathering missions could turn the tide of the war, while Pidge’s mission was very much personal in nature.
Maybe the other paladins were mad because, in their minds, Keith was abandoning a post that only he could fill for one that other people could fill for him.
But, of course, it was more complicated than that. Keith never felt like the Black Lion was his. In his mind, he was just keeping the seat warm for Shiro. And god damn, Blade missions are hard! There are very few people who could have done what Keith and the other Blades had to do.
Basically, the other paladins failed to understand Keith’s perspective on the situation, and they may have been so caught up in their own mission and their own perspective that they didn’t try very hard in the first place.
kinda fucked how keith was given more regard for his opinions and less blowback after (seemingly) going against the interests of the mission in the blade of marmora than he did when he was (supposedly) leader of the voltron paladins
he wasnt even a member of authority and kolivan trusted him alongside him on life or death missions, considered his opinion even when it ran opposite his own, and didnt verbally slam him down when things went wrong because sometimes missions do go wrong and you cant always forsee what the ‘right option’ is
but also… kinda fucked that keith is really taking that knowledge/success or death mantra to heart!!!!
