So in this post I explained why season 3 Shiro is fake because of how the Lions reject paladins. But that doesn’t explain why it still sensed and located the fake Shiro when he was floating out in space.
The Black Lion didn’t pick up on Shiro for seven whole days while he was floating out in space, until the last day. On the last day, right before fake Shiro was about to die, he started reminiscing about his team.
He started focusing on his mental and emotional connection with the team. That’s what the Black Lion picked up on. The Lions are psychic and emotional beings, they connect with their paladins through mental links. It’s the psychic connection that allows the Lions to form Voltron. Although this Shiro is fake and/or brainwashed, he believes he is real. The connection he feels to the other paladins is real, and it was so strong that the Black Lion was able to pick up on at the last possible moment.
When this moment was over, when fake Shiro stopped reminiscing so strongly like this, the Black Lion no longer has anything to pick up on. So when fake/brainwashed Shiro tries to pilot the Black Lion, it goes back to recognizing him as fake and it rejects him.
for anyone confused about the keith/shiro interactions in episode 6, i think this is why. first we see him trying to talk out what happened with shiro, and he has this look on his face:
that’s not the look of someone that’s happy to have the person that’s most important to them back, and i think we can all agree the first two episodes are setting up and reaffirming that for keith, shiro is a top priority, if not the top priority in almost every instance.
there’s obviously an implicit “i need you” but he’s clearly distancing himself from that sentiment, i think because he knows that whether or not this is his shiro, the team needs shiro to be ok. this is literally the saddest we see him so far this season, and it’s because he knows that’s not shiro and he’s consciously deciding to set it aside for now. more below the cut:
For the record…that dude they brought back isn’t shiro. No way in hell. There is far too much going on. He looks too different, his hair was too long for being captured for less than a year, it was like he was fresh out of a test tube. AKA that’s his clone, and the Phase Three for the Kuron experiments were to test of he was able to have the humanity that shiro does.

I absolutely think our Shiro was captured again by the Galra empire and this clone (Kuro) was made and his memories stolen. There is absolutely no way this is Shiro.
ALSO, the black lion proved this when she wouldn’t listen to him. She completely ignored him no matter what he did but listened to Keith. I think the reason she reacted to Shiro before was because Keith needed/wanted to find him so badly that she found what she thought was him.
We also still have that leaked image of Shiro and Matt fighting together and I bet you guys that it’s Matt rescuing Shiro from Galra imprisonment in season 3B.
One last thing that bothered me… his eyes are usually like grey right? This Shiro didn’t seem to have that. I don’t know how to explain it.
hey hey, fam, I know we’re super excited to get Shiro back in light of Season 3, but like, the Shiro we see is NOT the real Shiro, else he’s really fucked up.
This dude right here ^ Might not be Shiro. I don’t know what he is yet Kuro/Kuron/clone, but seriously, it ain’t right. There’s two Shiro’s here.

Like there’s two Shiros here. One’s gonna be a mole. One’s a copy. One’s getting memories/thoughts downloaded. I don’t know which one it is yet. Either the Shaggy!Shiro is the clone, and this is real Shiro hooked up to this thing and getting his brain downloaded or shit, or this is the copy and the real Shiro is out there being a wild cave man.
Either way, there’s something fishy and fucked up here, and it’s gonna hurt.
Theory time: One of them’s gonna die.
Also to elaborate: Shiro’s character redesign.
To the best of my knowledge, animators don’t do character redesigns willy-nilly. There’s a reason for it, you know? If it was really Shiro he could have slipped into the original model. But he changed his hair and clothing…So it’s gonna come into play to differentiate between the two later on. Either Shaggy is the real one, or the Table is the real one: ain’t so sure yet. But there’s gonna be a reason for it later.
Please let the table one be real and have that be why he can’t pilot Black. plsssss.
Also waiting for ppl to complain about the lack of Lance development even tho it was obvious from the start this season was gonna be more about Shiro and sorting out the lion situation etc and there was legit no reason to put much Lance development in there
Lance got a ton of development this season. He finally addressed the issue I had with him from episode one. Accepting that he was part of a team and that had to come before his own personal glory. This season really had Lance stepping up to the plate and maturing.
haggar betraying voltron because she was obsessively seeking knowledge and immortality? and zarkon betraying voltron because he was in love with haggar? and not to seize power (it was implied he’d like power but it was ultimately haggar that became the catalyst for his betrayal)? destroying the stereotype that female characters only become villains out of love for their male counterparts? and that male characters only become villains to further their own selfish goals? dreamworks coming through with that good shit
