I think I’m not the only one feeling this weird trapped feeling today, feeling sick and overwhelmed but unable to stop reading, reblogging. Trying to understand when there is nothing to understand.
I live in the middle of it. 19 people died in front of the bar I go drinking twice a week, and my friend the barmaid was hidden behind the bar for two hours. One of my best friend lives rue Bichat and heard the gunfire from his window. I know a family trapped in stade de France. I should have been drinking in Republique at 8PM yesterday, where they started shooting.
Yeah I get it. We are freaking out.
But please, stop spreading only the bad stuff. Stop the pictures and videos of bodies in the street, of yelling and blood. Stop talking about refugee’s hate, and islamophobia.
Talk more about the people that yelled in the street the number of the code to their flat when victims where running everywhere to bring them to safety. The man that opened the window of his flat to victims of the Bataclan stranded on the roof.
Talk about the man that went back to help a stranger pregnant woman, and the kid that was carried to safety by a total stranger worried he could be trampled by the crowd.
Talk about the social media, the hashtag #porteouverte to get people out of the street and #voyageavecmoi to help people afraid to travel alone because of their religion/skin color.
Talk about the taxis that stayed in the street, bringing people home for free all night, and the bus drivers that helped evacuate the Bataclan.
The people crowding the blood centers, so much that Paris now has to send them back home.
The people in their home, terrified and in shock, and only waiting for the possibility to crowd the street and show them that we are afraid but not broken, and together.
There are handfuls of people that will take out of this tragedy all the bad lessons, the wrong evidences.
But please don’t talk about them. Talk about the fraternity and the love of the scared, scarred, ones in Paris. Because we are so many, and we won’t give up

(Part 2) TRIGGER WARNING …
So, by now you have all heard of 22 year old [UCSB Shooter] who went on a killing spree in Isla Vista, a community in Santa Barbara, California. One Friday night, [the UCSB Shooter] shot and killed 7 people, including himself, close to the University of California Santa Barbara campus.
Prior to his violent shooting rampage, [the UCSB Shooter] recorded a video titled, Day of Retribution in which he states, “college is the time when everyone experiences those things such as sex and fun and pleasure. In those years I’ve had to rot in in loneliness, it’s not fair.” and “you girls have never been attracted to me, I don’t know why you girls aren’t attracted to me, but I will punish you all for it”.
About a month ago, after seeing some of [the UCSB Shooter]’s YouTube videos, his family contacted authorities. Law Enforcement interviewed [the UCSB Shooter] and said they found him to be a ‘perfectly polite, kind and wonderful human’ and took no further action.
Now we have media outlets labeling [the UCSB Shooter] as a “mad man”, “spoiled brat”, “misunderstood”, “good human” etc and continuing to file this mass murder under mental health.
Understand that no one is saying that he did not suffer from mental illness, I’m sure he does. But we CANNOT ignore the fact that this mass killing was rooted in his hate of women (misogyny) and inability to properly deal with rejection. There is much to unpack about this incident, how it was handled and how it will be portrayed in the media, but for now I’ll post some tweets from those of us responding to the shooting on twitter.

Gonna be a bit honest here…
I’m 29 years old, never had sex, and, due to depression and other issues, I haven’t dated in almost 15 years, and yet I don’t feel the need to go on a crazy, rage filled, rampage.
I understand compassion, respect, understanding, tolerance, and when to step back. I do not believe I am entitled to anything, or anyone, I feel no need to prove my masculinity, and I do not believe I am better/more important than anyone else.
So, what was this guys excuse for murdering two girls and four guys again?
In actuality, he killed 4 men and 2 women. (sources: 1 2 3 4)
Please make no mistake: it is still evident that his motivation for killing was misogyny. It is still clear that this event happened because the shooter felt he was entitled to sex. It is still true that the shooter targeted a sorority house, killing and injuring multiple women. The fact that 4 of those who died were male does not lessen the fact that this was a disgusting display of male entitlement.
However, that being said, please do not spread misinformation about this and state that 6 women were killed. This is especially important considering that this event is being used to target the MRA and the patriarchy, because we all know what the MRA and those who defend the patriarchy are like - if you have one tiny flaw in what you’re saying, they’ll dismiss everything. It’s all too common for those MRA types to say “you stated one small fact ever so slightly wrong, therefore your entire argument is invalid”. DON’T give them that opportunity.

When I was a freshman, my sister was in eighth grade. There was a boy in two of her periods who would ask her out every single day. (Third and seventh period, if I remember correctly.) All day during third and seventh she would repeatedly tell him no. She didn’t beat around the bush, she didn’t lie and say she was taken—she just said no.
One day, in third period, after being rejected several times, he said; “I have a gun in my locker. If you don’t say yes, I am going to shoot you in seventh.”

A girl was stabbed to death for rejecting a prom date.
Six girls were killed and other people injured because a man was upset that girls continued to reject him. Men are defending him by saying “thats what happens when you friendzone guys” and “they deserved it”. It is a problem.
As if girls arent already terrified of going outside in fears of street harassment, getting raped, getting groped, now we have to worry about getting killed for saying no. We have the right to be upset and we have the right to be scared.
Sure, men aren’t the enemy, but enough are that we are have the right to be terrified and upset with them.

When was the last time a woman killed a man for rejecting her?
When women reject men, men blame the women. When women are rejected by men, they blame themselves.

Let’s ignore the fact that this man felt so god damn entitled to women’s bodies and was such a racist that the knowledge that a black man had slept with a white woman made him “enraged.” Let’s ignore that, because otherwise we might have to acknowledge that our country isn’t some magical racism and sexism free fairyland.
