I have lots of posts about this if you scroll down, and I’m sure you’ve researched on your own by now (since I went to sleep before this ask came) but I’ll break down what I know:
Some people sent Lauren shit about lapidot on her twitter. This was about a week ago? And then, yesterday, she wrote some sassy tweets about piracying and leaked early episodes of Steven Universe, which she then said she was just joking about. People gave her lots of shit for that too. So in the end, she just couldn’t stand that people were so mean to her over a freakin cartoon, where she’s just doing her job, and so she deleted.
This isn’t the first time something like this has happened with Lauren, though. In January or so she made another private twitter, and essentially stopped using her public twitter for several weeks. Later she came back though. So I hope she’ll still be back, but perhaps she should keep it to the same level as Rebecca Sugar with her twitter. I can really understand why RS’s social medias are so sparse with her personal thoughts…
People think that just because they’re behind an anonymous screen name, they can say whatever they think of and there will be no consequences. But people have to remember that you’re talking to actual human beings, who will be hurt and sad if you write mean stuff to them. Don’t be that guy.
to all the cishet ace/aro people who made jokes about killing LGBT people, or all the aces who made jokes about the dirty allos dying, whether it was by shooting, a mass STD outbreak (how original!), or otherwise, here you go. it’s your lucky fucking day! today, 50 people at an LGBT nightclub were shot dead, and another 53 were injured. this is a cause for your celebration! after all, this is what you wanted, right?
i don’t think that any of the people who made these threats or said these things fully understood their impact. so let me explain it to you.
there are still people who kill us. there are still people who want to kill us. and those people started by making threats like yours. maybe this wasn’t your intent. maybe you didn’t know the kind of fear words like yours can cause. maybe you’re a part of the LGBT community yourself, and only made jokes about the dirty allos getting STDs and dying, so you think that i’m not talking to you right now. but i am. as long as LGBT people are still dying, your words have weight and will continue to make us distrust and hate you. take this time to think and reflect on what we have been telling you for months and see if you still want us all to die.
