Reblogging because I mentioned this study in a post the other day and someone reblogged & replied insinuating that I’d made it up, but I didn’t have the citation on hand right then. As I said then: rape culture is what teaches rapists that they aren’t rapists.
^ bolded for emphasis
The gross thing with this is though it’s completely disregarding the fact that there are female rapists. They aren’t saying “Male rapists” they’re saying “Rapists” insinuating that all rapists are men.
And it’s fucking gross because 40% of all rapists are women.
They /are/ saying male rapists? They are only talking about men in these statistics - so they’ll only be talking about male rapists. 1882 men were questioned. 120 men answered that they have raped people.
At no point are they just saying that only men are rapists - this infograph is only /looking/ at male rapists.
If it had been asking 1882 people (gender non-specified) and then went on to say that 120 men answered that they have raped people. And if the infograph had disregarded information they had collected from other genders - then you could call this “gross”, because that is a misrepresentation of information and is also trying to pull the wool over people’s eyes.
You’re getting digusted by the presentation of specific information that is not skewered or insinuating anything beyond the fact that out of 1882 men - 120 men had raped people.
