“we’re all human!”
yeah except you never had to fight for your humanity
“we all bleed red!”
yeah except it’s not your blood running in the streets
“we should all be just nice to each other!”
yeah except you’re not holding up your end of the bargain
Ok, this is nice and all, but if you try to use, “Well, you never had to fight for your humanity” or, “Well, it’s not your blood running in the streets” to excuse bullying, death threats, and suicide encouragements, you are, in fact, a shit-tier human being, and you absolutely deserve to be called on your assholery as much as an assholish member of the majority does.
If you sit around bullying cis, straight, white, neurotypical people who support you, have never done anything wrong, and who are actually for the advancement of ideas and the acceptance of tolerance and equality, you are an asshole.
If you then tell them that they aren’t allowed to be angry and offended, because they never had to fight for their humanity and it isn’t their blood running in the streets, you are an asshole.
I’m a fucking gay trans man, and even I say, “We all bleed red. We’re all human. We need to make an effort to unite. We need to make an effort to be kind. We need to make an effort to be good people.”
It’s my people’s blood running in the streets. It’s my humanity and rights I’m fighting for.
Just because my cis, straight friends didn’t have to fight like I have doesn’t mean that I look down on them, generalize their demographics, or make them feel like shit for “having privilege” over me.
The majority of people I have met who say things like this are pro-equality. There have been a few I’ve seen who have said something offensive, and then started whining about how we’re all human when they’re called on their bullshit. People like that exist. They’re immature and ignorant.
This post is also immature and ignorant, though, because it suggests that we aren’t all human, we don’t all bleed red, and that we shouldn’t try our best to get along and be kind to people who support us and our causes. It is advocating division rather than unity. It is advocating hatred rather than alliance. It is literally calling people out for viewing minorities as the same species they are, as human. It is calling people out for not being dehumanizing.
What the fuck?
Call out the assholes you see, but don’t shit on legitimate allies for wanting to be treated with respect. What’s so hard about showing them kindness when they’ve done nothing but show us kindness?
