Always reblog.

Because black people cant be anything other than slaves and hoodrats according to them.

We cant like science, photography and things. We can’t be complex individuals.

We can’t have our stories be seen as universal because Blackness is tainted by white supremacy.

I’ve read Spider-Man since I was 7 years old, and if you read it too, and can’t see that the most important things about the character have nothing to do with race, you’re a piece of shit.  Peter Parker has nothing in his character that has a single fucking thing to do with the color of his skin.  He is brave, he is insecure, he is funny, he is brilliant, and he has essentially the shittiest luck of any super-hero.
I’m actually furious at the “nerds” who said this.
Those guys are just racists with comic books in their hands.
If you read comics and don’t see the massive disparity in respresentation between white superheroes and superheroes who are people of color, you need to put down a comic and look at the world around you.
You can’t throw a rock without hitting 17 different caucasian comic book characters.  This actually made me so angry, I’m not sorry.

*I also feel like I don’t even know how much of a right I have to participate in this discussion.  I’m sorry if I come off like I even understand the issue in all it’s complexity, I’m just… angry.*

All heroes are like that. ^ its never about skin tone its about ttheir personality.

Nope.  That’s not true at all.  Part of Magneto’s history, and what is integral to his story, is being a German Jew.
The X-man Storm is a Kenyan woman who grew up in abject poverty, and was praised as a goddess when her powers developed.
Luke Cage is a superhero whose whole life was defined by his struggle as an African American.  He was the hero of Harlem, and an example to other inner-city kids that they could rise above the expectations others could put on you, and be more than what people labelled you as.
Captain America was the paragon of what people in the 40’s thought of as the American Ideal.
A lot of characters are so non-descript, and poorly fleshed out in their backstory that swapping race isn’t a big deal.  But if someone presented me with The Black Panther, a Wakandan king (albeit a fictional African nation) played by Leonardo DiCaprio, I’d flip my shit.
It’s in the same theme of Tom Cruise being best samurai in the Last Samurai.  It’s Kevin Costner being the best Indian American in Dances with Wolves.  All because they’re white.  It’s insulting.

It’s just that in the case of Peter Parker specifically that his race doesn’t play a huge race in his development as a human being.
Peter Parker was white by default.  That’s it.
We don’t need more representation of white people in media.  We’ve got that fucking covered.
