the best thing in all of homestuck is when we saw what the kids would be like if they didn’t play sburb and grew up, jade, rose, and dave all became dedicated anti fascists who literally rebelled against a dictatorship and murdered important members of the regime, while john literally was just A Stand Up Comedian

I mean honestly I think that’s super important to acknowledge? John didn’t just become a stand-up comedian, John became a stand-up comedian after Jade left him behind to live his entire life into adulthood with )(er Imperious Condescension, who I am willing to bet was not a particularly loving figure. Dirk’s canonical interpretation of this is that John had a super high tolerance for fucked-up shit, but the John we see in Homestuck pretty canonically fell into depression after the end of the comic, after everything was over. John has a high tolerance for fucked-up shit when there’s work to do, and his work as interpreted in this universe was making people laugh as a comedian. And how much do you think that messed with )(IC, too? Here he was, all groomed and ready to be the heir to her company, and he’s standing on-stage letting people laugh at him. Because that’s what he wants, not what she wants for him. John fought her as hard as he could, in a way that only John could have ever fought.
