don’t fucking do that thing where you’re like “well at least SOMEBODY’S happy :’) my life sucks”
that’s the cheapest and most selfish way of making the conversation about you that anybody has ever heard. sorry your life sucks, but jesus christ, have the decency in you to let somebody who’s happy BE happy without ruining that for them just so you can have a pity party.
note that what I just described is different from just sharing bad news in general
I’m talking about the people who deliberately derail an otherwise happy conversation to make it about how much you need to pity them
