can we as a community stop like, immediately burning things that have one mildly controversial thing in it, like, game of thrones has like, seven seasons, like
its just like. when you make stuff where the intended audience is transphobes and homophobes you. you make money. and yeah you’re a monster but you… still make money. you make stuff where teh intended audience is trans people and gay people and you have like one small not great thing and your whole audience leaves. shitty tv shows can piss off every gay in the world and still turn a profit. stuff made for gay people is always so in danger of flopping. its not safe to create work with the intention of uplifting lgbt folk because of this hypercritical eye. im not saying like. ignore problematic elements, im not saying dont work towards doing better, but, like, we cant keep expecting and demanding perfection and we cant keep saying like, uhhhhh did you know one of the voiceactors in that cartoon was an asshole? you’re not allowed to like that show anymore
there’s a BIG difference between media that has problems that you want to improve and FIX those problems and media whos problems are so bad you just want it to end
and we have to stop… putting everything, everything in the second category
a friend calls this the “uncanny valley of criticism” and i think thats a good term
