Actually, on the subject of age, let me throw a quick little PSA your way. Kids don’t lie to adults about your age on the internet. Please. Let adults live in their comfort zones. I know we often hear it the other way around, which is also not okay, but last night I found out a girl I’d been speaking to who said she was mid twenties was actually sixteen. It just… it makes me feel uncomfortable. Please respect adults and what they want. Please don’t lie so that you can engage with them. It’s not cool. That’s all. Thanks.

#also it makes it difficult for adults to be responsible #an adult is going to talk differently to another adult than they are to a kid or teenager #just don’t lie to people????

No, no, no, and no.

it’s your life, and if you don’t feel comfortable with your age when someone ASKS you, you’re allowed to lie, you could either A - not feel your age. B - be scared of being taken advantage of because of it (hello! pedophilies, abusers, don’t ever think all adults are angels, because it’s far from the truth)  or even C - being afraid of being judged.or even worse, isolated, 

many can feel their not taken seriously for being “too young” to understand things, when wisdom doesn’t come with age, it comes with life, E X P E R I E N C E. There’s many people i know whom are more than 10 years older than me, and their a complete and utter embarrasment. blame the amount of judgemental beings in the world before you go on about lying.

even so, Make sure you know the person before engaging in subjects like your age, share it only if you feel you can trust them, that’d be better than having to lie.

If you don’t feel comfortable disclosing your age when someone asks you, at least let them know whether or not you’re a minor.

If you don’t feel comfortable disclosing that you’re a minor, then politely end the conversation and find some new friends.

Yes, adults ARE going to treat children and teenagers differently, because we don’t want to risk hurting them by having inappropriate interactions.

And even if YOU feel completely comfortable and safe in an arrangement where an adult is misled to believe you are ALSO an adult, please keep in mind that if the police somehow get involved?

You are not the one who is going to be punished for it.

Children & teens, if you really care about the adult friends you make online, that alone should be enough reason to be honest about whether or not you’re a minor. You’re worried about feeling shut out, we’re worried about going to prison.

FWIW, being honest about your age is also a good litmus test to discern whether or not you’re dealing with a pedophile! If you reveal that you’re a minor and they continue to act flirty and inappropriate with you, cut them off. Seriously, CUT THEM OFF.
