GUESS WHO JUST PUT DOWN A DEPOSIT ON A FEMALE PUPPY FROM THIS LITTER

SKDFJSKLDFKLSDFJKSDKLSLKSDJFKLSDJ

they were already born July 4th, and she will be coming home to me beginning of September!!!

I AM FINALLY GETTING A PUPPY

Ew but why from breeders? Seriously ADOPT DON’T SHOP! UGH.

@mellidraws :) This isn’t shopping when it’s from reputable breeders. The reason why people may want to go to breeders is to get a dog from generations upon generations of HEALTH TESTED DOGS with great genetic temperament and recorded pedigrees of dogs who have proven themselves to have the correct temperament and structure of the breed. These breeders fork up hundreds and thousands of dollars to train and title and health test their working line german shepherds, before carefully making ONE breeding decision.

Adopting is great, if you don’t mind some health issues or temperament issues popping up. But in terms of what KIND of puppy you will be getting, it is a total crapshoot. Similarly, buying from a pet store, craigslist breeder, or otherwise unrecorded and untested litter is also a total crapshoot- in that it is playing with chance and unknown genetics. You may end up with a well dog without temperament or fear issues, or you may not.

For those who don’t mind having a few health issues popping up, or who have the capacity to deal with temperament issues, and who just want a pet dog to play with, adopting is totally great!

For me (and many others), my goal is to train and trial in schutzhund and a variety of other sports. I need the genetic assurance of insane stability, biddability, fearlessness, strong nerves, high drives, the correct TYPE of drives, and correct temperament appropriate for the sport. That’s where buying from a reputable working line breeder comes in, who have a hold of dogs who come from recorded, solid dogs proving themselves to be this kind of working dog for the past 100+ years. Adopting a random puppy from unknown genetics is nice, but it won’t give me this temperament assurance, and it definitely won’t give me health assurance.

educate yourself before chanting adopt don’t shop. Reputable breeders isn’t shopping. It’s improving and maintaining a quality of dog and the breed. Shopping is pet stores and random craigslist/unproven breedings.

Basically, either buy from a reputable breeder or adopt. But don’t shop at pet stores, backyard breeders, or breeders who don’t health test their dogs before breeding. But if you want to “go cheap” and try to find that “great deal” on craigslist for a puppy, then you might as well adopt.

This post is an absolute load of shit.

There is no ethical breeding while there are still hundreds of pets being out down everyday. Just come out with it you don’t care about genetics, you care about looks.

Breeders, no matter how good, can provide no health guarantee on offspring. And breeding has consistently proven to only ruin breeds not improve them. I can already see the curve on the spine of these dogs the same one bred into german shepards that causes hip dysplasia.

That temperament line is BS too. Dogs are domesticated. Bad behavior comes from bad training. If you have a purebred and don’t train it will be misbehave as bad as any untrained mutt.

I cannot believe you’re trying to undo all the work rescues have done so far to try and save what irresponsible breeding has done to animals. You claim to be educated on this, but all you have in your bag is a bunch of ass pats to keep yourself from feeling bad for supporting the very thing that gets hundreds of thousands of animals put down.

Since you brought up claims of education… may I ask, what are your qualifications?

I’m comfortable giving mine. I’ve been in rescue for seven years. I’ve had dozens of foster dogs. I’ve had straight-out-of-a-puppymill dogs in my house that I had to carry everywhere because they where too scared to walk on their own. I’ve had fosters who have been so aggressive my husband couldn’t touch them for months. I’ve had elderly (15+ years old) fosters who had been in rescue their ENTIRE lives.

I have a rescue dog. I have shelter cats.

I also have dogs from responsible breeders. I’m a member of my national breed clubs. I’m a member of performance organizations. I’ve started my judging apprenticeship (which will take years of study and experience before I’m licensed.)

Based on my experience in my breeds, I feel qualified to say that yes, there are responsible breeders. Responsible breeders’ dogs don’t find their way into rescue, and if they do, the breeders take responsibility and take their dogs back.

Responsible breeders improve and preserve temperaments. They monitor health issues, and make breeding decisions to eliminate or lessen the prevalence of problems.

Responsible breeders study pedigrees to assess longevity, and make breeding decisions to increase longevity and lengthen their dogs’ working lives. They make breeding decisions to improve and strengthen working ability.

These are not the dogs you find in shelters or rescue. In my tenure in rescue, we’ve only seen two responsibly bred dogs come in… and both were pulled by their breeders and donations made to the rescue. (And yes, I can tell the difference between a well bred dog and a poorly bred dog. It’s clear as day to someone who knows the breed.)

If anything, what I see in rescue reinforces my opinion that we NEED responsible breeders. We need people who actually care about the dogs they’re bringing into this world, and owners need the amazing support of those breeders.

PS - Behavior is not the same as temperament. Just FYI.

spanishmal laying down the facts! BAM

that feel when someone claims something is bullshit then just lays down the most massive steaming heap of shit you’ve ever heard in your life.

There is nothing wrong with getting animals from reputable breeders.
