Potential Voltron theory...

Was crunching through screencaps for the wiki again (S2E12 to be exact) and picked up on something I hadn’t before.

Do you see it? Zarkon’s wearing two cloaks.

Something’s off about that inner one, though.

Started wondering “Why would the Emperor of the known universe wear a) two of something b) torn anything and c) too small to boot?

…And then I realized.

ZARKON IS WEARING ALFOR’S CLOAK AS A QUIZNAKING TROPHY YOU GUYS.

That’s kind of … weird, though.

Like, it’s not weird to take a trophy of your enemy if you’re someone like Zarkon. I could certainly see him doing that, particularly if he wanted to send a message to other rulers across the galaxy that he is not to be trifled with. But typically trophies are put on display somewhere; they’re things like prized weapons, or in some gruesome cases, body parts (usually a decapitated head). They’re on display somewhere very public and prominent to send a constant reminder to all who would dare oppose.

But this is different. Zarkon took a cloak, which no one would immediately recognize except for those who knew Alfor. He’s wearing it, despite the fact that he doesn’t really make that many public appearances himself (and certainly not to the generals / commanders / rulers of other armies—he has his own generals for that). And even if he did make appearances himself and people would recognize the cloak, he’s wearing it under his, which makes it harder to see. It also puts it right up against his body, and what’s that trope? Ah, yes—when someone’s precious person dies, the surviving person will sometimes wear the deceased’s clothing, so as to keep their scent / the feeling of them close at hand at all times.

Like, guys … I’m not saying that Zarkon might have some lingering feels for Alfor, but … Zarkon might have some lingering feels for Alfor. Maybe. It’s just weird, as all. That’s all I’m saying.
