millennial-review:

tastyginger:

If you honestly believe there is no future, you my friend are a dumbass. This country survived A Civil War and numerous horrible presidents including Barack Obama. If you truly believe Trump is the end, I seriously question your mental capability.

I don’t believe Trump is in the end, but I think he’s a symptom of the problems that legitimately do leave millions of young Americans feeling hopeless.

A stagnant economy, that nobody can seem to fix, either in a conservative direction or liberal, all the while the richest continue to hoard the lions share of annual income. It’s almost like it’s not a coincidence nobody is fixing those problems, stagnant wages and lack of collective bargaining is good for capital and millionaires, not so good for the average American.

Then we have a government that happily shells out $700+ billion a year in military expenditures, some portion of which upholds a world order that is genuinely great for most people on this planet.

Still though there’s even more money going to contractors who skim off the top, while taking part in trillion dollar conflicts that don’t benefit anybody and in fact directly jeopardize that aforementioned world order.

Then we have a student loan system that’s taken the one path of upward mobility many Americans have and turned it into a glorified serf system that gives you a few years before you decide to further embed yourself in that system by pursuing further education or try and survive in the aforementioned stagnant economy in a world where thousands of people decided to get that extra degree and outcompete you for the entry level position you’re gunning for.

Houses are more expensive. Healthcare is either a bankruptcy or unobtainable for millions. Meanwhile mortality rates are actually increasing for the first time in decades. All the while addiction and mental health care falls by the wayside because millions of Americans can’t even access basic care let alone those more expensive services they depend on.

I could go on and on. I haven’t even touched on how all these problems generally impact people of color, immigrants, religious or ethnic minorities, women, and everyone who isn’t straight, a whole lot more than they do people who happened to luck out and avoid the harsher side of an already harsh system by luck of the draw.

It’s not Trump. It’s decades of political and economic trends coming to a head and in my opinion if things don’t change for the better soon, Trump is only the beginning.
