What she says: I’m fine.

What she means: The fact that in episode one Allura skips Lance while she’s assigning the lions probably directly relates to Lance’s insecurities about his place on the team because unlike the others, he was not told directly what characteristics of his make him suited to be his lion’s paladin. That was intentional. Lance feeling like a seventh wheel was planned from the literal start. It’s all connected.

You stop that

Oh my god I’ve seen some dumbass reaches before by this fandom but this one is just absurd. I’m going to say this over and over again until you children get it through your heads: Stop fucking painting Lance as this poor baby child who’s too fragile and too frail under his insecurities. News flash people, EVERYONE IN THIS SERIES HAS INSECURITIES. Lance’s insecurities stem from the fact that not everything is working the way he had imagined. I could go on and on and write a ten page paper meta on Lance’s character explaining exactly what this is.

Allura didn’t JUST skip over the blue lion’s characteristics. She didn’t just ignore Lance. She was about to explain when Lance INTERRUPTED with an overconfident spiel about himself to make himself look special.

Allura: The Blue Lion–
Lance: –wait wait takes the most handsome pilot of the bunch? *smirk*
Allura: …The Yellow Lion…

At that point she wasn’t going to waste time trying to explain what qualities the Blue Lion would require because Lance has already decided what they are regardless of whether or not they were the real qualities. When a dudebro goes up to you and flirts and tries to be smooth af but ends up being rather douchey by interrupting a briefing MULTIPLE times to make it about himself, I HIGHLY doubt all of you would react with “Awwwww he has insecurities! Poor bby uwu”

The fact of the matter is this: Lance is confident, suave, and creative. However, he is very overconfident and very self-inflating. He despises being second to anyone which is why he hounds after Keith with unnecessary hostility despite Keith’s initial attempts of a neutral first meeting. (However this does not mean he’s incapable of receiving orders from a superior.)

Being chosen by the Blue Lion made his head unnecessarily huge. Clearly being the Blue Lion’s pilot made him feel even better than Keith, because despite how Keith had felt the energies the Lion had not chosen him as her pilot. However, due to recent events, Lance is beginning to understand himself as a piece to a whole rather than a special hero. He has to work with his self-imposed rival and understand that there is a time and a place for his humor and his confidence. Therefore, his insecurities do not stem from a personal self loathing (fucking hell ive seen this shit everywhere) but from the fact that he’s being placed under a position where humility isn’t a simple situation, it’s absolutely necessary.

Lance went from one third of a douche-canoe self-appreciating jerk who was more than happy to ignore his colleagues exclamations to not do stupid things and ended up failing his team’s simulator course–to a crucial member of a team whose confidence no longer has to reside in just himself but in all.

Let me scream it from the rooftops: LANCE IS NOT AN INSECURE PRECIOUS CHILD WHO NEEDS PROTECTION.

He is going through a process where he can’t just think of himself as the most special, most qualified, or as the best of the bunch, but as a supporting member to the rest of the group. He’s the Right Leg of Voltron, he has to know where to take the best steps to lead an attack–and this is a lot different from the Best Hero image he planted for himself early on.

So fucking STOP treating him like this wounded puppy and believe in his ability to stand strong and become the person he’s supposed to be. GDI TUMBLR I AM GETTING SO SICK OF THIS SHIT
