lance slowly comes to realize, he’s been over idolizing shiro and placing him on a pedestal, and that shiro doesn’t listen or pay attention to him very much, and that shiro very obviously favors keith and pidge to him and hunk, and then lance confronts shiro about that. or, tries to. shiro brushes him off, lance gets angry.
you’re nothing like the you i knew
and it isn’t just shiro’s treatment of him he has criticism of, either! he makes sure shiro knows how he treats every member of the team. “your expectations of keith are way too high, shiro, he’s so stressed. you need to accept there are some things he can’t do– nothing wrong with that, keith, buddy, it’s ok that you can’t– but instead you just say ‘i believe in you’ and expect that to magically fix everything!” and “dude, do you even talk to hunk?” “well-” “i mean outside of orders, shiro. do you ever ask, ‘hey, hunk, how was your day? did you get up to anything new?’ no, not that i know of! you just say, ‘hunk, shoulder canon’ and ‘hunk, you go with so-and-so on this mission!’ you don’t talk to him, shiro.” and so on and so on.
keith, starts backing lance up. “lance is right, you don’t listen to him. remember the blade or marmora? you didn’t listen to lance, and i nearly got myself killed. i mean, i wanted to go but… yea.” and soon the rest of the team follows, and it’s great, and shiro gets that Good Criticism and honestly lance probably would’ve been a lot nicer about his criticisms if shiro didn’t brush him off when he brought them up. he honestly was planning on being nice.
