Just a reminder to everyone who thinks this “Invasion Day” business should be put behind us; until 1967 Aboriginal people, their lives and well being, were regulated under the Flora and Fauna Act, meaning that they weren’t even classed as human.

That’s less than 50 years ago.

The legal recognition of Aboriginal humanity in Australia is younger than my father, and that generation still holds the reins of power today.

This history exists, and it doesn’t go away overnight.

we frequently equate Australia’s WW1 and WW2 involvement with tomorrows public holiday (for reasons i personally have, at best, mixed feelings about) but unknown numbers of indigenous servicemen and women worked and died in both these conflicts and more before they were ever recognised constitutionally as people, let alone rights-holding citizens of this country

this is an informative article on the relationship of indigenous people and the ‘ANZAC tradition’, for those that are unaware and want somewhere to start
