There’s a post going around warning about a video that starts as a cute romance (two students comunicating by scribbling on a desk) but ends in a school shooting… but the post’s super reactionary so here’s a separate heads up
This video (you can watch it here) was made by families of the victims of the sandy hook massacre. In the video the school shooter was showing tiny signs of planning a shooting in the background- not immediately obvious ones, but they piled up. The video goes through them at the end, with the message that school shootings can be preventable if someone notices the signs before it’s too late.
The post I’m referring to is calling it ‘guilt trippy’ and claims it’s saying students are responsible for school shootings but… no? Why the hell would relatives of school shooting victims say that? They also claim it’s encouraging people to be ‘constantly be suspicious of one another’ but all it’s saying is that if you happen to see /behaviours like those/ from someone over time then look into it.
I’m not linking to the post/reblogging it because I don’t want them to get negative attention, but… yikes. I’m not saying this video is a flawless way to get it across (certainly effective, though), but calling it stupid, guilt trippy and disgusting is so inconsiderate to the losses the creators went through.
