Yo can I just say I’m really glad Yuuri told Victor about Makkachin right away?
Like, I am continuously amazed by the maturity with which Yuri!!! on Ice handles Victor and Yuuri’s relationship.
The way it was set up, with Yuuri’s sister calling him rather than Victor, Yuuri had the option to not tell Victor about Makkachin until after his free skate. It would be a source of drama, and for a split second there, it seemed very possible that Yuuri would do that, but then something wonderful happened: Yuuri remembered his own dog.
It was only shown on screen for a second, but you could tell that Yuuri was remembering what it was like to lose his dog, and then, because he didn’t want Victor to have to experience that kind of pain, he tells Victor without hesitation that he needs to go back to Japan, even if it meant he wouldn’t be there for Yuuri’s free skate. He does this because that’s what mature people do in dire circumstances such as these, when they truly love each other.
Yuuri actively decided to put Victor before himself, because Victor is much more important to him than his skating career.
