“protect heteroromantic aces” lmao from what? the sharknado?
from corrective rape? from mothers who are open and accepting of gay, bi, pan, etc people and still unknowingly tell their asexual children that people who don’t want sex are sick need help? from their closest friends at birthday parties starting conversations about how weird and fake asexuality is? from the fear of being alone forever because no one could want to be with someone like them? from going against sexual and relationship norms in a society that tells them they’re broken and wrong?? from people like you who delegitimize their struggles in the eyes of much of lgbt+ community, some of the only people who you’d think might understand
full offense but all of those things are things that happen to lgbt people too………….uhh and they can all be explained by homophobia, sexism, and ableism pretty easily
….no one said they don’t happen to lgbt people, you know that right? They just said that these are things that happen to all ace people, het aces included.
not really. they dont happen because youre asexual they happen because of different reasons, i.e., sexism homphobia and ableism
So if someone is a cishet ace and tells their partner, or someone they’re interested in, that they are ace and then explains what it means, and then their partner proceeds to rape them in an attempt to “fix them,” that has nothing to do with the fact that they’re ace?? Interesting. How would that stem from sexism or homophobia?? The only way it could extend from ableism is if the person is ace because of a traumatic event or something similar. Or are you one of those people who believes that asexuality is a mental illness in it of itself?? Because you know, it actually just stopped being considered a mental illness recently. (In fact, it still is considered one unless the person identifies as asexual sooo…lol that’s def not acephobia no way no how)
that one’s hard to pin down and i think its primarily sexism at work right there. i feel like that only really happens if youre a woman, its common for men to think they have control over a woman’s sexuality……..
umm, and the rest? no i absolutely dont think its a mental illness. the ableism part is because a lot of people see autistic and other ppl with neurodevelopmental disorders as…… kind of untouchable in that way. and also yeah bc of ace people who are that way because of trauma.
A man…can be correctively raped too you know. Like saying that only happens to women is ?????? Not only ace men, trans men, gay men, bi men, pan men, can all be raped in an attempt to “fix” them. So yeah I feel like I shouldn’t have to say anything more about that so…..anyways, that’s kinda a reach you know. “That one’s hard to pin down” yeah, maybe that’s because you’re ignoring the main thing it is: acephobia. You know that something can be acephobic AND sexist at the same time too, right? In fact, unless the person is like a rich cishet white male ace, there’s more than likely gonna be more than one -ism or -phobia at play here. Just like you can be sexist and racist at the same time.
“the ableism part is because a lot of people see autistic and other ppl with neurodevelopmental disorders as…… kind of untouchable in that way.” This also isn’t acephobia? Like, that 100% is ableism. That’s also kinda the opposite of what I’m talking about. That’s like, projecting asexuality onto people because they’re not seen as desirable, not hurting someone because they’re asexual. But like I said, these things will combine! If someone is autistic and asexual, you can bet people will be ableist and acephobic to them at the same time. Just like someone can be homophobic and racist to a black gay person at the same time.okay i might be wrong about that part. umm. i dont really know what to say…….. i just feel like it wouldnt happen ONLY because youre ace
yeah i know ppl can be oppressed in different ways at the same time thats…….my point. “acephobia” isnt a coherent category for it, its just one or a few of the other things, sexism or homophobia, etc.
That’s like saying “transmisogyny” isn’t a valid term because it’s a mix of transphobia and misogyny. Or that “misogynoir” isn’t valid because it’s a mix of misogyny and racism. These things combining creates entirely new experiences. A white woman will never experience sexism the way I do, because it is always mixed with racism to create an entirely different experience than sexism alone. Which is why the word misogynoir was created. I will never experience misogyny the way a trans woman does, because it is always mixed with transphobia. Like, the word “cake” was created because it sure tastes different than all the ingredients alone. Also, acephobia is NOT a mix anyways. It can be mixed with other -phobias and -isms, but it is it’s own thing. People ARE discriminated against simply for being ace, whether you feel like it happens or not. There was this video (it went around tumblr years ago, so I could try to find it for you if you want, but it would probably take me a while) of people going around some type of pride event and asking people what they thought about asexuality. That’s it. Just “what do you think about asexuality/asexual people,” and people said things like it’s disgusting and wrong! (Again, this was years ago so these are not direct quotes, but this is the gist of what they were saying.) How is that not acephobia?
ETA: A friend of mine is heteroromantic ace, and I want to protect her from pretty much all of the above. She already...
