i cannot believe this needs to be said but
- it makes zero sense to ask ‘is survival sex work rape?’ cos you’re defining someone else’s experiences and consent by assuming there’s even a yes or no answer
- some people who’ve engaged in survival sex identify that experience as abusive, exploitative and as sexual abuse
- some people who’ve engaged in survival sex do not feel that they were raped by virtue of having to participate in survival sex
- while there is ~discourse associated with both experiences, the most important thing is in fact experience because rape is not something that happens in theory or something that’s defined philosophically, it’s an experience. you cannot tell someone what their experiences are. wild I know
- this entire conversation is largely an intra-community convo that doesn’t involve civilians at all
- claiming that ‘all sex work is rape’ by definition means that 1) our consent is meaningless, and 2) we’re constantly being raped so it doesn’t matter if we consent and a client respects our boundaries or if they brutally assault us, therefore 3) claiming ‘all sex work is rape’ makes us unrapeable so it’s a hugely fucked up statement to make and you all need to fucking stop
- stop adding bullshit to sex workers posts
