I like Blacksad but damn its hella pretentious.
Also the fact that the artist refuses to draw woman as animalistic as men is irritating enough but it just gets more frustrating when the first two pages of the first issue is literally just nothing but giving the guy asspats for his “mastery of drawing expressive anthropomorphized animals” and im just like sure yeah but he cant draw a cat dude and a cat chick BOTH looking like cats because god forbid she isn’t sexy.
The only female characters so far to be drawn even REMOTELY as animalistic as their male counterparts are all characters playing cliche, ‘matronly’ female roles such as a teacher, secretary or maid.
Literally only ONE, ONE male character in the entire series so far has been drawn even remotely human looking and he wasn’t even a character he was a person on a movie poster in the background!!!
It’s just really grating tbh and reeks of vague, quiet sexism and it just irks me so much.
And it’s such a shame because the art really is GORGEOUS like its not like he lacks the ability (which in itself still isnt an excuse) it’s literally just because he can’t bring himself to ‘tarnish’ that wily feminine beauty am i right guys.

sure theyre SLIGHTLY better but not only do they look nothing like him (though they both look EXACTLY like their mother- nice variance there buddy!) they dont even look like fuckin’ bears
that’s a weird looking horse, i’ve seen the new My Little Pony but this horse is even stranger
i wouldn’t even say they’re slightly better because at least the cat man has a human sized neck so the cat woman’s human sized neck doesn’t look as weird in comparison

and its so obnoxious because EVERY FEMALE CHARACTER gets this bullshit with exception of a) female character tropes that aren’t *meant* to be sexy, or b) completely irrelevant female characters in the background
for example:
a) like the fantastic Mrs. Grey here
b) these two ticked off ladies
this fox lady and this pig lady? theyre fucking great!
but the second a female character needs to play a bigger role?

This has always bugged me no end… I think I tried to convince myself it’s cos the men are more likely to show their animalistic tendencies than women… But that just doesn’t hold up over all the examples. Also my sister just pointed it out only the women have hair… Like proper silky fluffy permed hair I think I saw one male with a hair style in my book when I flicked through it… And that was Hitler…
