So story time. In high school, I was pretty deeply into martial arts and therefore had awesome muscles, especially in my core. And then I graduated and went on a summer long trip to South America where I ate greasy food and didn’t exercise at all. And lost 20 pounds of muscle mass, again largely from my core, and had crap-tons of interesting anxiety problems. And when I came back I got tons of compliments on how “sleek” and “feminine” I looked and I was pissed because DANGIT I AM SIGNIFICANTLY LESS HEALTHY NOW than I was when I had stamina where I could do serious physical exertion for long periods of time and feel great and could throw around dudes much larger than me. And that’s when I decided that weight loss or thinness is not a good proxy for health or fitness and that it really ticks me off that muscle mass is not seen as feminine.
