So it’s safe to assume that Yellow Diamond isn’t the only gem in charge of the home world.
in sworn to the sword, we see 4 literal diamonds at this temple
but on peridot’s ship there are only 3 of those colors remaining. You’ll notice that pink is the missing color.
so it’s a pretty accepted theory that rose used to be part of the diamond authority, and if you look at this temple here, from left to right you can see a white gem (with the triangles present on both the home world gems’ costumes, and on the floor of peridot’s ship), rose, a blue gem, and a yellow gem.
None of this is new, but I saw a theory about the Diamond Authority being made up of fusions. From the way Jasper acts, there seems to be a heavy stigma against fusions on the home world. Which if you ask me, is the perfect set up for discretely fused gems to reign as the most powerful gems.
Here’s where it gets interesting, I believe that the 4 diamond authorities corresponded to the 4 basic elements. White Diamond controls Air, Blue controls water, Yellow controls fire and Pink (rose) controls Earth.
“But Rose Quartz controlled plants, not rocks!” I hear you say.
This brings me to my next point.
Each Diamond is made up of a dominant gem to rule, and an elemental gem to give them power.
Pink Diamond was made from Rose Quartz and Desert Glass
So far we’ve seen the fates of two elemental gems:
Desert Glass and Lapis, both of which were imprisoned in objects so that their abilities could still be used.
So what I think happened is that the sight of what the Kindergarten was doing to the planet was so upsetting to Pink Diamond, that much like when Garnet saw the cluster, her fusion became unstable. Pink Diamond split into
Rose Quartz and Desert Glass. Rose Imprisoned Desert Glass to prevent their reforming so she could take a stand against Home world.
The main leader in the counter strike to the rebellion was Blue Diamond.
Now another theory I saw that highlighted the significance of Steven’s Humanity pointed out that Sadie was able to take down a corrupted gem with a stick.
As a human, she was able to take down the kind of monster that even the crystal gems struggle against. This could be due to an intrinsic weakness to organic matter. The seaworm monster from Bubble Buddies was defeated by a collapsing boardwalk
In Watermelon Steven we learned that Rose was able to summon plants to defend her in combat. If gems really do have a weakness to organic life, then that puts rose at a huge advantage.
Which is why she was able to defeat Blue Diamond and trap Lapis to a mirror.
What better way to gain intelligence on the enemy than to view the memories of a former leader?
But then what happened to the Blue Diamond’s dominant gem?
There’s no safer place to store it than in Lion’s Mane.
