Wtf? This is some BS. Coming from a person who has a lot of experience with dead beat dads, this post is pretty offensive. I WISH most parents showed the kind of affection and attention Greg gives Steven. Come on now.

I don’t even get where you’re seeing Greg as an “incapable manchild” who is “unable to function as a parent?” Greg is a fantastic parent, he pays Steven a LOT of attention, gives him boundaries while allowing him to grow, includes him in things, treats him like a person. Greg’s a better dad than my dad. The only thing I can think of which would make him perceptible as a “bad parent” is that he lives in a van and Steven doesn’t live with him, which is basically saying that he’s a bad parent because he’s poor.

This post is bullshit. He is a good dad. Just cause he doesn’t have a lot of money doesn’t mean he is a bad dad.

Things Greg Universe is:
a private business owner
musically talented
unorganized
living in his van
trying his best to give support to his half alien child without having much knowledge about Steven’s alien heritage

things Greg Universe is not:
a bad dad

I assume you think he’s a bad dad because he admits he doesn’t know a lot about gem stuff and says steven should ask someone else, and he hasn’t given up on his music career, and he lives in his van? Greg wants Steven to have the best information about his gem heritage and knows he’s not the best source for that. He works on his music when he isn’t running the car wash because he loves it and he wants steven to have an example of not giving up on his dreams. And for the van part well there are lots of reasons why he may do that. Rents in a beach town are /huge/. He wants to make sure he always has enough money to pay rent on the storage unit which we’ve seen has a lot of stuff from his life with Rose. Steven has a steady amount of pocket money, not all of it comes from quarters on the beach, do you think the Gems give him that? Greg also has enough money to keep the van repaired despite it getting broken every few episodes. Greg has other priorities above paying for a house. That doesn’t make him a dead beat.

Plus he said he “wanted to live with his son again” in the one where he stays at the temple for a while, meaning at some point he DID take care of steven probably almost exclusively.
