Opposition leader, from the left leaning Labor Party, Bill Shorten was making his Close The Gap speech, discussing the disparity between Indigenous wellbeing and the rest of Australia. This includes a shorter life expectancy, higher incarceration rate, low socio-economic situation and domestic violence against women. 

Several government MP’s, from the conservative Liberal Party, walked out during the speech.
