As end of semester consolidation I made a little timeline of basic Spanish tenses. 

Notes:

el pretérito imperfecto (comía) is separate because it describes an event that happened at any point in the past, depending on the given context. 

el presente perfecto (he comido) has two forms shown:

Orange: past actions that continue into the present or are seen to still effect the present

Green: to have had the experience of something. (eg “Have you ever eaten sushi?”) this does not specify when in the past you had the experience, just that you did.
