GAMZEE MAKARA DISCOVERY.

i have finally cracked the code that is gamzee makara, at least somewhat!
so i’m just going to cut to the chase!!

1) “the chase”

gamzee has dissociative personality disorder.

2) “what?”

remember in Karkat: Answer. when he says

well, we can definitely conclude from this that gamzee believes he is two different people, and that’s probably why his quirk has changed and now he types either in lowercase or UPPERCASE, and also why he has assigned a :o) to one, and a Do: to the other.

but this isn’t some goofy thing he is just saying for the fun of it, it’s actually TRUE.

3) “how?”

DID is developed most commonly from something happening to you at a really really young age. this is because you haven’t actually formed a set personality yet, so it is easy for your psyche to “break” in two or more pieces if something happens to you. and the most likely way this can happen is if your parents abuse or neglect you.

hey guys! remember goat dad?

remember how goat dad never took care of gamzee ever? how he always just left him all alone?? and how gamzee ate sopor slime because goat dad wasn’t around to teach him that eating sopor isn’t ok? yeah, me too!!!!

so, who was around to help gamzee when he was feeling hurt or scared or even…angry? why, gamzee was. gamzee was around for gamzee. and also the “friends” gamzee made (who didn’t really like him very much. no, not even karkat. karkat realized he shouldn’t have treated gamzee so badly later, but this doesn’t mean he was acting all tsundere to him; he found gamzee annoying and stupid.), who he basically based his religion around because they were that important to him, but that isn’t the topic of this post.

so when your psyche breaks, there is usually a personality that is the “protector”, which is exactly what it sounds like. it is an alternate personality that protects you from what made this happen in the first place.

4) “but wait, that would mean that he was two people all along, even before he was sober.”

mhmm!

usually, the protector is naturally aggressive, because that is how it’s supposed to react.

but with trolls, especially of gamzee’s caste (the subjuggulators), they are already naturally aggressive and murderous, so really the roles would probably be switched in gamzee’s case! trolls are different to humans, after all.

see, do you notice how gamzee never reacts to anything? he doesn’t react to insults or hurtful comments, he lets them slide off of his back like with water and duck feathers. Gamzee: Answer troll. (one of the very first gamzee logs) is a really good example of this.

(and another thing about dissociation is that you “lose time” a lot, which means you black out and the other personality takes over, even if for a couple minutes. i’m not sure this counts as that but it might.)

5) “so then, being sober made him reveal his core self?”

not necessarily!

the whole “he ran out of sopor, and that was what kept him calm” is a common misconception by the fandom. being sober didn’t do much but make him experience headaches and withdrawl originally, but the sopor slime was what kept his core personality sedated, so even if he had blacked out and his other self fronted, he wouldn’t have been able to do much.

in Dave: Answer Gamzee. we see that he has been sober for awhile.

and that the link dave sent gamzee was what triggered the switch and made him lose faith in his beliefs and that started his downward spiral into murdering his friends and stuff (also lil’ cal “whispered” that he should kill his friends, so, that too.)

6) “so other gamzee is gone for good?”

i don’t think so.

gamzee was murderous when he told karkat that there was two of him.

and the gamzee that karkat had originally shooshed papped into being calm? the gamzee that met up with the alpha kids and threw the dead trolls’ bodies into their sprites? the gamzee that found calliope’s and caliborn’s egg and raised (sort of. he mostly just gave them shit tons of sparkles and meat and then chained their legs to a thing and left.) them? the gamzee that was all smiley with caliborn even after he shot him up?? that’s chill gamzee, but he isn’t exactly all sunshine and rainbows anymore either. i mean he hoarded the trolls’ dead bodies, haha.
but that is definitely him and that is most likely why his behavior has been so confusing this whole time. i mean, he goes from crying at arquiusprite’s creation to beating the shit out of terezi and killing karkat at what seems like a drop of a hat!

so in conclusion, we will just have to see what happens next, but i am really sure that this means something.

PS: i am not defending gamzee’s actions AT ALL, and he is not a “poor misunderstood/misguided baby”. he is highly intelligent, conniving, manipulative, and he knows he is really shitty but doesn’t care at all. remember! you can like villians but you aren’t liking them if you are trying to make them out into the good guys. just appreciate them for what they are and how they are written.

here is some extra proof. he had to get rid of terezi because she was one of the smartest.
