Hey so I’d like to go ahead and dispel the untruths being spread by this anon who does not know zamii, has never spoken to her, and seems to take great joy in destroying someone’s reputation.

HERE’S WHAT HAPPENED.

A while back, Zamii made the mistake of differentiating cis women and trans women by insinuating that they were fundamentally different, not on a biological level, but the assumption was that she meant on a societal level. I’ll be the first to say that Zamii is not a very well spoken person! She’s certainly not a bad person by any means, but she does have a history of trouble when it comes to communicating her ideas and the things she says/does.

This came about because she was asked a question about bisexuality, if I recall correctly, and she was under the impression that being bisexual meant that you were only attracted to both cis men and cis women. This, however, as she did not realise, is not the case, and when more information was brought to light, she interpreted it incorrectly.

SO, because tumblr likes to take people and choke them hard around the neck when they fuck up, she got a whole bunch of people treating her pretty tersely and instead of explaining where she’d fucked up, they were quite abusive.

A while after the incident, Zamii made a video in where she attempted to apologise for the miscommunication and misinformation that she’d spread, and she attempted to recant what she had said earlier, but actually just ended up repeating the same thing, in a different way. Now, I can’t personally say that this is an example of blatant and shameless transmisogyny, but it certainly is something she still needs to apologise for/rectify. As someone who knows Zamii personally, I know she has, as I said, a history of being not particularly well spoken. I assume that in time she’ll come back and formulate a more articulate and non-transmysoginistic apology, but that remains to be seen.

NOW. Moving on to the issue of her abusing her parents… There’s literally no proof of this whatsoever? So I don’t know why anon is bringing it up, let alone why it would be relevant to the discussion of Zamii’s remarks regarding gender and bisexuality. So, to me, this is kind of a shitty and misguided punch to pull, especially since anon doesn’t seem to know what they’re talking about in the first place! It seems to me, based on the things Zamii has posted and vented about in the years I’ve been a friend to her, that it’s actually her mother who struggles with Bipolar Disorder and treats Zamii pretty abusively, so I’m not sure how the tables got turned in this situation and for what reasons.

Regarding Zamii’s addiction to opiates: This is another thing that is very much NOT your business, and has absolutely ZERO correlation to the issue of her remarks and inability to communicate her point of view accurately.

She is suffering from an auto-immune disorder as well as a specific type of progressive arthritis, if I remember correctly, as well as stomach ulcers, etc, and yes, she uses Vicodin for it as far as I know. I really don’t think that people understand this, but Vicodin is a drug that is a narcotic, pharmaceutical companies are aware of this, and yes, it is addictive.

Unfortunately, to be able to function and manage pain, she has to take it. This does form an addiction! This is not something she can control and there is not alternative for the drug, at the current time. Those are the facts. It’s what she has to do to get along, and none of you are in any position to sit there and judge her for this, especially because you aren’t in her position, you don’t know what’s going on in her life or what her current state of health is, and what’s more, these facts are COMPLETELY IRRELEVANT to why everyone’s dragging Zamii in the first place, which is that she made some comments she probably should not have made.

Again, I really don’t think Zamii is a bad person or a bigot or a transphobe. I think she’s young, not educated on a lot of topics regarding trans/nonbinary/genderqueer/agender issues, and it takes a little extra time for her to figure these things out and understand them.

I don’t think that’s a very unreasonable assumption to make, but I know that tumblr likes to kneejerk as fast as it can, and I know that as someone who has spoken to and knows Zamii personally, she’s not that kind of person.

I will maintain that the mistakes she made do need to be rectified still, but man, y’all need to not bring irrelevant information into the mix.
