Once you first start noticing how often men will interrupt or talk over you if you’re a woman you can’t ever stop like every time i have a conversation with a man or participate in a class discussion i notice it and it’s honestly my biggest irritant

notice it and stop it. don’t let them talk over you. if they start, do not stop what you are saying and look them straight in the eye until they do. it should not be tolerated

Definitely this.  Don’t let a dude run you down.  Hell, half the time they don’t even know they’re doing it.  I sure as shit don’t, and I feel terrible the moment it’s pointed out and I tighten the fuck right up.  Hooray society.

This. Also, guys, start paying attention to when you do it, apologize and ask the woman to continue.

Also, guys, if you spot someone else doing it, call him on that shit and tell him to let the woman talk.

I never used to notice this, largely because I’m an interrupter and a talker-over myself; I’ve had to cultivate better turn-taking behavior in conversations.  But I’ve started to take note of when other women around me are being talked over, and cutting in on their behalf:  ”Hang on, I think [Name] wasn’t done saying something?” — accompanied by overtly focusing my own attention, not on the interruptor, but on the person who was interrupted.  It’s often effective.
