I hope that she is released alive and safe and that there will be a day when things like this dont happen. This sort of treatment is unjust and oppressive.

@shitposter-nugget

Damn I hope she is safe

Serious courage

I’m not Muslim but this is quite clearly why we need to listen to non white women on this. Plenty of people who live in the West and wear the hijab have outright said they do not feel they are oppressed, while women in countries where it is law. often do feel oppressed by it. It doesn’t mean one size fits all rules should apply. Listening to people should not be this hard.

They’ve already arrested 30 women who are following her in taking off the hijab. I fully support these women who are fighting against the rule to be forced to wear the head scarf instead of having the choice. We need to bring more awareness to this.

Yeah uh, I’m still convinced that 80% of people who stopped watching SU did it because of the scheduling/pacing issues.

joaquim and lauren: there’s a difference between “killing himself” and “sacrificing yourself for the greater good”

me:

Okay but it makes me extremely happy that they said this as it’s a very personal subject for me.

I come from a military background. For the first 13 years of my life, I lived on military bases around the country since my dad was a US Army soldier from 1987 until he retired in 2013. My brother was born in 1997 and myself in 2001, so we were born into the military lifestyle, and I’ve honestly never been prouder of anything else.

For 18 months at a time my father would be sent away on deployments to the Middle East to fight the ongoing war on terrorism, putting himself in extreme danger and pushing himself to his limit alongside his military counterparts in order to defend our country. He missed birthdays, Christmas, New Years, and large portions of mine and my older brother’s lives in order to fight to create a country in which we could grow up safe and unharmed.

I constantly reiterate the fact that Voltron is not just a show about adventures and shipping and comedy. It’s a show about war and the fight for freedom, a message that I grew up with.

Keith is an amazing example of the modern soldier. He doesn’t think of himself, he thinks of the cause and his brothers in arms, which is exactly how soldiers are trained to think. My dad was rigorously trained to never think of himself as an individual, but to instead put his brothers and sisters in arms first, thinking only of the fight and the goal, as that is the only way to win a war. This is exactly what Keith’s mindset is.

Does Keith have some deep-seated issues? Yes, he most likely does. Abandonment by his mother and implied abandonment by his father are extremely conducive to a poor mental state. But what Keith did was not reckless. He was not simply trying to kill himself. Keith knows that he has reasons to stay alive - learning about his heritage, being there for Shiro, and his friends. He was not just trying to commit suicide.

He was making a sacrifice for a cause that was bigger than himself.

It saddens me when I see posts that Keith was being reckless and stupid for attempting to sacrifice himself, as it pushes the idea that soldiers who sacrifice themselves on the battlefield are not of sound mind and are being “reckless.” My father watched men and women die for their country during his deployment, and none of them were being reckless. They were laying down their lives because they believed that the cause they were fighting for was bigger than themselves. They made a decision not because they wanted to die, but because they were willing to do so if it meant that their deaths could lead to a safer world.

Keith nearly sacrificed himself not because he was depressed or wanted to die, but because he wanted to fight for the cause. It is constantly ingrained in his mind that the Paladins are too valuable to die, while all around him he’s watching other members of the rebellion lay down their lives for the cause with no protests. Keith does not believe that being part of Voltron makes his life anymore valuable than the rebel fighters, and this is not a sign of self-hatred. It’s a sign of humbleness and of a soldier.

Now, did Keith’s depression make the decision to make the sacrifice himself an easier one? I can agree with that. But he was not killing himself because of his pain. He was sacrificing himself to save the universe.

So please stop saying that Keith was trying to commit suicide and “needs help” because of it. Keith definitely needs to talk to someone about his depression, but his attempted sacrifice was not reckless or irresponsible. It was brave, and he deserves to be recognized for that.

please raise your children to wash their hands after they use the restroom I’ve watched too many men walk straight out of the bathroom from the stall without a second thought and it’s keeping me up at night

I mean if you taking a piss who cares if you don’t wash your hands, unless you just like go full power and spray yourself like a out of control fire hose

stay the fuck away from me

people who wash their hands after peeing are weak and must be culled

The only excuse for not washing your hands after you piss is mastering the art of pissing without touching your genitals.

You wash your hands every time you touch your dick? How grimy is your dick?

I’m literally never shaking a man’s hand ever again in my life y'all need jesus

Men are using a powerful hashtag to fight back against emotional abuse

According to NCADV, 4 in 10 people have experienced some kind of coercive control from an intimate partner. Sadly, #MaybeSheDoesntHitYou is raising much-needed awareness for a widespread problem.

This is disgusting. It really is. I hope that people gain awareness of this issue and their own situation and I really hope that we all find better.

I appreciate the hell out of the women reblogging this. As a survivor of such emotional abuse, I know it’s vital for men to step forward and talk about their experiences. The old “man up” narrative needs to die.

Absolutely right. Abuse is abuse, no matter the gender

Hey.

Remember that episode of Danny Phantom where, after cheating on his universe’s equivilant of the SATs, he watched his friends and family DIE in a freak accident, and was so consumed with guilt and depression that he begged his arch-enemy to RIP OUT HIS HUMANITY, after which his humanity-less evil half MURDERS his good half and goes on a decade-long rampage that affects the human and ghost world so severely that even comic relief characters like The Box Ghost have dropped the funny act, and a council of ghosts that OVERSEE TIME are like “Yeah….we should probably fix this”, all done to say to the SEVEN-YEAR-OLD DEMOGRAPHIC that “Hey kids, cheating on tests is bad and you should maybe not do that. :)”

It, uhhh, it was a good ep.

Anyway I’m still really bothered whenever people refer to Keith’s time in the desert like him having a nice nature experience as if he was off at summer camp. Like he hated school and felt suffocated by its restrictions when in fact he said after leaving the garrison he felt lost, because he loved training to be a pilot and the sense of purpose it gave him.

Because there’s a difference between spending a week at a cabin in the woods and running way, ostracizing yourself from literally all human contact after losing the person you cared about most. It’s grief and it’s ugly, it’s mourning and throwing yourself into an investigation you know nothing about because right now it’s all you have. Because you may have lost everything but you still need something to keep you going, so you just keep pinning up pictures and threading them with string, connecting all the dots in some vivacious hope that this will all lead to something. Frantically searching for some meaning in the incomprehensible aftermath.

image

And if you’re writing It’s killing me when you’re away, have secluded yourself alone for months and months, then you’re not there to “enjoy the quiet” or because you’re “a dirty greasy boy who loves living off the land” or whatever. The fact that there was an episode where Pidge was so affected by being left alone, she started talking to dummies of her friends after like a few hours, and yet people don’t realize the intense psychological ramifications of being isolated from all human contact for a full year, is…just very strange to me. Especially considering how one of Keith’s greatest fears is being abandoned–and by Shiro more than anyone. The fact that he packs up and leaves after Kerberos? It’s extremely telling.
