"Marvel Studios quickly noted that the addition of Spider-Man into their film universe has resulted in four projected films’ debut dates being changed. The third Thor film, “Thor: Ragnarok”, has been pushed to November 3, 2017; it had previously had that July 2017 spot. New film franchises “Black Panther” and “Captain Marvel” have been pushed to July 6 and November 2, 2018 (respectively), while “The Inhumans” has been shifted to July 12, 2019. The dates for the fourth and fifth installments of the “Avengers” team films (“The Infinity War Part One” and “Part Two”) remain unchanged at May 4, 2018 and May 3, 2019 (also respectively). This presents an amusing (albeit understandable) bit of hypocrisy within Marvel Studios’ itself. After Scarlet Johansson’s Black Widow saw significantly more screen time and thus popularity in 2012’s “The Avengers” than she’d seen in 2011’s “Iron Man 2” and her popularity within that role seemed to reaching a peak, Marvel Studios brass began being bombarded with questions about whether the super spy would get her own film. The gist of the response was an insistence that Marvel Studios plans films so many years in advance and can only produce so many films at once that there was absolutely no way that an unplanned Black Widow film could work out (despite the fact that a script for a “Black Widow” film written by David Hayter had existed since 2004-2006). Not even Johansson’s exceptional supporting role in 2014’s “Captain America: the Winter Soldier” swayed Marvel Studios’ official response. As a result, “Lucy”, a film starring Johansson as a woman who gains superhuman powers in an R-rated, modestly budgeted affair wound up earning almost $459 million worldwide based almost exclusively on Johansson’s increased popularity and the audience’s desire to see more of her as a lead heroine. Now, another arachnid hero has emerged within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and all of a sudden the studio can move heaven and earth shifting around four film production schedules to make room for him. While it is easy to explain this in terms of sheer popularity, it is also hard to shake the sense that this deal was done because Spider-Man’s cinematic star had begun to dim, while Black Widow’s seems to only get brighter. It also doesn’t help that due to this deal, the rising voices demanding more diversity in big screen heroes will have to wait longer to get Marvel Studios’ first starring hero of color and their first lead super heroine."

And here’s how we know that the guy at Marvel telling us that they just had everything too perfectly planned out to slot in a Black Widow movie was just feeding us bullshit excuses.

African ethnic group of the week: Yoruba (Nigeria, Benin and Togo)

The Yoruba language belongs to the Congo-Kordofanian language family(They speak a language of the Benue-Congo branch of the Niger-Congo language family) . Yoruba has many dialects, but its speakers can all understand each other.

Yoruba is a tonal language. The same combination of vowels and consonants has different meanings depending on the pitch of the vowels (whether they are pronounced with a high voice or a low voice). For example, the same word, aro , can mean cymbal, indigo dye, lamentation, and granary, depending on intonation. Pele o is “Hello”; Bawo ni? is “How are you?”; and Dada ni is “Fine, thank you.”

Most Yoruba men are farmers, growing yams, corn (maize), and millet as staples and plantains, peanuts (groundnuts), beans, and peas as subsidiary crops; cocoa is a major cash crop. Others are traders or craftsmen. Women do little farm work but control much of the complex market systemtheir status depends more on their own position in the marketplace than on their husbands’ status. The Yoruba have traditionally been among the most skilled and productive craftsmen of Africa. They worked at such trades as blacksmithing, weaving, leatherworking, glassmaking, and ivory and wood carving. In the 13th and 14th centuries Yoruba bronze casting using the lost-wax (cire perdue) method reached a peak of technical excellence never subsequently equaled in western Africa. Yoruba women engage in cotton spinning, basketry, and dyeing.

According to a Yoruba creation myth, the deities (gods) originally lived in the sky with only water below them. Olorun, the Sky God, gave to Orishala, the God of Whiteness, a chain, a bit of earth in a snail shell, and a five-toed chicken. He told Orishala to go down and create the earth. Orishala approached the gate of heaven. He saw some deities having a party and he stopped to greet them. They offered him palm wine and he drank too much and fell asleep. Odua, his younger brother, saw Orishala sleeping. He took the materials and went to the edge of heaven, accompanied by Chameleon. He let down the chain and they climbed down it. Odua threw the piece of earth on the water and placed the five-toed chicken upon it. The chicken began to scratch the earth, spreading it in all directions. After Chameleon had tested the firmness of the earth, Odua stepped down. A sacred grove is there today.

As many as 20 percent of the Yoruba still practice the traditional religions of their ancestors. The practice of traditional religion varies from community to community. For example, a deity (god) may be male in one village and female in another. Yoruba traditional religion holds that there is one supreme being and hundreds of orisha, or minor deities. The worshipers of a deity are referred to as his “children.”

What is this bullsh*? “Most Yoruba men are farmers” — what century was this written? Yoruba people, like people of other ethnicities all around the world, have a VARIETY of professions. We are lawyers, we are architects, we are writers, we are artists, the list goes on and on. Cease and desist from these sorts of backward and essentialist descriptions of groups just because they are in Africa. Stop spreading ignorance.

baronessvondengler I should have put “were” instead. I’m sorry if I didn’t make it clear that this is talking about Yoruba people and society pre-colonisation (like most of my african ethnic group of the week posts).  I should have read it more but sorry english isn’t my first language so i get my tenses mixed up sometimes and make grammatical errors without realising it. I’m sorry

this post is for people in the Austin, TX area who are looking for a cat for an addition to their family

this is Aspen. she’s around 4 years old now and we’ve had her for a little over a year. i’m wanting to find her another home not because i want to get rid of her, but due to the fact that my dad hates her. i’m concerned for her because he’s not good to her sometimes and there’s nothing i can do about it. i’ve told him multiple times to knock it off but it does no good.

i want somebody that will love her and give her the good treatment she deserves. she is truly a sweet cat and it’s not fair to her that she has to live in a home where she’s at risk of being abused.

so, if you live in Austin, and are interested in Aspen, please message me and tell me why you would be a good owner for her. i’m pretty picky when it comes to my animals so if you’re not 100% serious about her please disregard this post!

edit: this is becoming urgent!!! i saw my dad hit her and its really upsetting to see and im not really sure what to do! if you live in Austin or anywhere close to Austin and would be interested in her please contact me asap!

A friendly tip: if you feel the urge to self harm get an ice cube and hold it in your hand for a while. It relieves the compulsion in a less destructive way. Therapists have used this with their patients and I have tried it myself it works pretty well

Okay wow this is now my favourite post on Tumblr. Signal boost into infinity.

My mom’s a therapist and she recommends this to people all the time

Day 11 of #BlackHistoryYouDidntLearnInSchool - Ruby Bridges

I recognize that some of y’all learned about Ruby Bridges in school, so did I. But in school, I didn’t realize how difficult and harsh the conditions were for Ruby Bridges. I wasn’t taught that there were crowds each day threatening her, that her family was ostracized and lost their land and jobs, that she received death threats while in school. Some of the black history we learn in school is downplayed. The fact that Ruby Bridges attended an all-white school is radical and important. I want people to know that. We went over it in history class as if it was nothing and that to me is inexcusable. That is how much of my education about black history in school has gone and I’m not for that.
