one of the weirdest experiences with manga is learning that a character with blank hair is not necessarily blonde and in fact probably has light brown hair and a character with blacked in hair does not necessarily have black hair but might even have like fucking red hair or something
Pearl seems to have a hard time physically containing emotions (or controlling them at all). She shakes when she’s angry or really happy, does that spontaneous twirly thing when she’s gushing about the strawberry field. Then there’s the end of “So Many Birthdays” where she can hardly function when distraught.
I love this about Pearl, actually! You can tell she’s trying to be suave, graceful, mature (possibly why she idolizes Garnet a little) but she just can’t contain her emotions to carry that through. You end up with this sort of pedantry which is a little at odds with how graceful her movements are and how peaceful her ideology is.
Moving out to California I met my dear friend Ashley who happens to be deaf. I am super into music and it’s crazy because you connect and feel certain ways because of the things you hear but you don’t realize that some people don’t get that connection so now I blast my favorite songs with her with the bass up high so that she can feel the bass. I just started signing but I try to learn every song so that she can see and feel what I’m feeling. This is us today to AMTRAC - You Haunt Me. We are crazy.
This should be the new “is your Batman remotely like Batman” test. Can your version of Batman be caring enough to hold and care for a small child, yet still menace four criminals into surrendering, and even then still not be scary enough that a civilian can just go up to him and say “hey you holding that baby wrong, you clearly do not know what you’re doing. Let me help.” And he accepts her help, doesn’t try pretend he doesn’t need help because it’d hurt his image.
