4 Years After 6 Cops Beat Homeless Man to Death, Cops Walking Free, Still No Justice
On July 5, 2011 a group of six Fullerton officers took part in the beating of Kelly Thomas, a 37-year-old mentally ill homeless man, at the downtown Fullerton bus station parking lot. He died five days later, never regaining consciousness.
It’s been 4 years since Thomas was mudered, and even though there’s 100+ witnesses plus a surveillance camera captured him (WARNING: Very graphic and difficult to watch) screaming for his father & begging for air as the police kneed him, jolted him with an electric stun gun and used the blunt end to strike him around the face and head, Jurors still couldn’t find enough evidence to charge the officers.
The 33-minute video starts with Thomas being approached by Fullerton Police Department Officer Manuel Ramos, who engages him in conversation. By minute 15, Ramos has already donned latex gloves.
“You see my fists?” Ramos asks Thomas. “They’re getting ready to fuck you up.”
When Thomas stands up to walk away, a second police officer hits him repeatedly with a baton. The first few minutes of the altercation are off-screen, but the audio shows Thomas verbally giving up. He continuously shouts, asking for help and at one point crying out for his father.
“I’m sorry, dude! I’m sorry,” Thomas said. But the blows continue.“I can’t breathe dude, I can’t breathe!” protests Thomas. “Please, I can’t breathe!“ At minute 20, Thomas cries out to his father, who isn’t there: “Dad! Dad! Dad! Help me, help me Dad!”
District Attorney Tony Rackauckas leveled charges against three of the officers. Manual Ramos was charged with murder and manslaughter and Jay Cicinelli with manslaughter. But in January 2014, an Orange County jury acquitted both Ramos and Cicinelli of all charges. Charges against a third officer were dropped after the acquittals.

i’m so angry rn one of my friends was rejected for a voluntary position at an lgbt+ branch of the mental health charity mind essentially bc she wasn’t ‘lgbt’ enough. she’s bisexual but she’s only had one serious relationship which happened to be a guy (who she is currently still with). the interviewer was asking her a lot of invasive questions about her romantic and sexual history and then said ‘she wanted her clients to feel safe and that they can properly relate to staff’… well i can say for sure that your BISEXUAL ‘clients’ aren’t going to feel safe if this is your fucking attitude.
Ugh. This is what I worry about when I want to be a doctor for an LGBT focused health center. I’m bi and I’ve never been in a relationship before but that shouldn’t overshadow my experience with my lgbt related volunteering/courses that I’ve completed.

You go into your job, you piddle around getting coffee and getting “set up” every morning when you’re on the clock, you spend an hour in the morning and an hour in the afternoon on Facebook, you mess around on the internet in between that, and you have a custodial staff cleaning up after you.
You don’t have to do the cleaning yourself. You don’t have bosses telling you “If you’ve got time to lean, you’ve got time to clean.” You have time to lean. You lean on your desk during the mid-afternoon slump and no one says anything except to remark on how many hours you have to go. You lean on your friend’s cubicle wall while you talk about the big game or your guild raid or who said what about whom on TV last night. Sure, if you do that too often or too obviously, someone will say something, but the mere fact that conversation happens isn’t automatically taken as a red flag that someone is stealing time from The Company.
You might have to kiss up to the boss or a touring client from time to time, but mostly, you don’t have to provide service with a smile or anything like that. You don’t have to smile and speak cheerfully and politely to customers who are making your job difficult by their apathy, entitlement, and disrespect. You can sit there and grimace and sneer and roll your eyes at the computer monitor, muttering under your breath (or speaking out loud to your neighbors) about what a live one you’re dealing with as you type out your considered and professional reply. Whatever your job is, you’re just expected to do it, not do it and perform the emotional labor of a continuous mask of unflappable perkiness.
Your schedule is not a weekly guessing game. It’s not set by someone playing chicken with the part-time/full-time boundary. You aren’t expected to come in before your shift to get everything set up or stay after you’ve clocked out in order to clean everything up for tomorrow. You don’t live in a state of constant tension between the fact that you don’t make enough money even with the hours they deign to give you and the fact that they give you hours designed to ensure you can’t have any life or commitments outside the job.
White collar workers are paid with the expectation that they will have done their jobs within the time that they spend in the office, not that they will have worked a solid 8 or 10 hours the entire time they were on the clock.
Minimum wage workers are treated like if they aren’t performing two or three jobs the entire time they’re on the clocks, they’re stealing their wages.
Source: I have worked white collar office jobs, and listened to my friends who have worked minimum wage service jobs. I could probably still do the former, if I hadn’t transitioned and if transportation weren’t an issue. I know for a fact I could not do the latter.
I have worked both types of jobs and this is very accurate.

Tail Pulling is a behavior noted in many corvids. The practical application is to create a distraction that will allow the birb to make off with the target’s food. Imagine being in the lunch room and a large fellow has a Twinkie you covet. You can’t just take it from him because he’ll defend his Twinkie. But if you thwap him on the back of his neck and then dash around to snag the Twinkie while he investigates, you stand a decent chance of enjoying spongey goodness. This is basically that in birb form.
Except corvids don’t only do this as a distraction. Sometimes they seem to just being doing it to mess with other animals/birbs. But to use my lunch room analogy, there are times you might thwap someone sneakily on the back of the neck just for amusement. Primates exhibit behavior that appears to be just be annoying other animals for amusement. Given how intelligent crows are, its not unlikely that this is a manifestation of an innate desire to just fuck with someone else for the fun of it. Such as this from the link above:

And then my fundamentalist christian parents asked, “do you masturbate?” because they found I had signed up for this site called “okcupid” in order to do the fun personality quizzes they had on it. And okcupid was a “sex site.”
And they would play mind games with me, pretending that they had been recording more of my activity than they actually had, but refusing to tell me how much, so I never really knew how much they actually knew, or how long they’d been spying on my computer, and I lived in constant fear of them pulling out a “WE KNOW YOU DID THIS, GOTCHA.” at any moment.
Sometimes when I left the room they would sneak onto my computer and go through anything I had left open.
I’m 23 now, and to this day I have a soul-crippling paranoia of anybody getting near my computer. Not even long term romantic partners. NOBODY touches my computer. Never ever ever ever.Because instead of actually communicating with your children, stalk them instead to manipulate them emotionally.
This is terrifying and my parents did this to me constantly throughout my childhood.
My mom hasn’t done it in the past year or so because I’ve been ‘good’ (I kind of just gave up on everything for awhile because of depression caused by my folks so I could do no wrong) and I still delete the history on the computer just in case. She still goes through my phone sometimes, though.Phone horror story:
my parents went through my phone when I was young and dating this girl, but I didn’t want my parents to know. I was afraid if they would accept me, my mom being religious, and my dad being the most important person to me. So every night, my girlfriend and I would say goodnight and “I love you”. But my parents were suspicious, took my phone, went through it, and then hid it.They then watched me run around the house in a blind panic trying to find my phone for /hours/. I finally figured out what happened, confronted them, and was sat down for hands down the worst talk I’d ever received. They asked me if I was dating this girl. I said yes. They asked me if I was a lesbian. I said no, I’m bisexual. They then proceeded to tell me that “bisexuality isn’t real, I have to pick, it’s just a phase” ect.
And that’s my coming out story. I didn’t “come out”. I was forced to admit my sexuality under interrogation after they invaded my privacy, and then ridiculed. I have nothing to hide now, but when someone goes through my phone, I freak out. I don’t tell my family when I’m dating someone, even if I’m happy with them.
So yeah. Wanna fuck up your child for life? Wanna cause a major rift in trust between you and your kid? Go through their shit, and wondering why your kid doesn’t tell you when something’s wrong /years/ later.

I used to be in a relationship with a cis girl; if I may remind everyone, I, also, am a cis female. I live in the bible belt of the United States and one of the most terrible places you can be in: Texas. That means I was raised with and around people who STILL believe that gays/trans/anything apart from ‘the norm’ is going to hell/condemned/disgusting.I was crushing on this girl of mine for a couple of years, and my parents took my phone one time because I got in trouble. They’d read all of our texts. All of them. Everything. And they forbid me from ever speaking to her again and ended up taking me to “Christian” therapy. This made me unbelievably depressed and when this happened, I got back into self harm. Still, when you’re forced to grow up doing things that make you happy in secret because your parents are super consesrvative, you get sneaky. Eventually this girl and I ended up in a relationship. So I dated this girl for THREE YEARS, long distance, ENTIRELY in secret. I had to clear my text messages every 5 minutes, couldn’t EVER talk to her on the phone (except for when I finally got my car and was allowed to go our by myself, in which, I still had to be careful) and it made us both MISERABLE. If they found out we were talking not only would we not be able to again, but they wanted to place a restraining order on her just so that it would be IMPOSSIBLE for us talk again. All because they were MORTIFIED of me ‘being gay’.
And I’m not exaggerating. They would check the Verizon bills to see what numbers I’ve texted/called, would SNATCH my phone out of my and RANDOMLY and check through my messages/MSN, and I was subject to ‘random regular computer checks’. The girl I was with at this time had to pay $50 to get an area code that wasn’t the one they’d be looking for just so that we could text back and fourth without questions.
It destroyed me. It destroyed my sense of trust for my parents and even now, long after my relationship with this person has been ended and I am allowed and approved to date my current boyfriend, I still clear my texts out of pure fear and am still scared sometimes. I doubt they’d take my phone now that I’m nearly 21, but I have no idea and I can’t be too careful. I still haven’t come out to them as pansexual and probably wont ever.
If you love your children, don’t do this kind of shit to them. They’ll never trust you again.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, if you violate your child’s privacy in this way you’ll never earn their trust, you’re just creating a better liar.
This is not something your children will “understand” later; you will not be forgiven, you will not be confided in. You will create trust issues for your children for all of their future relationships. There is nothing about this that is ok.

Why would gender bends erase trans, non-binary, and intersex people? Gender bends actually DON’T reinforce the idea of two genders. Gender bends don’t do that at all. There are trans-headcanons of fictional characters. People like gender bends since they would act differently than normal counterpart. People would often put as a gender bend and see how would they act such as maybe more short tempered or outgoing. Some series have done this such as hetalia and adventure time. They are gender bends in those shows and they explain how different they would be in their characteristics.
I am sure and know those people who like gender bends acknowledge trans and have headcanons. If it makes someone happy making a gender bend and/or trans characters, headcanons, or stories then let them.

I’ve never understood how people can claim you should trans headcanon instead, since it’s not the same thing at all.
Trans headcanon: this character was assigned a different gender at birth, now they identify this way, nothing changes except maybe interpretation of certain actions/motives.
Gender bend: this character identifies as a different one than they canonically do, certain things change because of it.Don’t tell me that shit is the same.
