Afro-Latinos face many challenges when it comes identity, particularly when people refuse to believe that being Black AND Latino aren’t mutually exclusive experiences.
The Latino identity denotes an ethnicity, which means that Latinos exist in every color and race imaginable – and explaining the difference between race and ethnicity can be quite a cumbersome task to take on on a daily basis. And yet, many Afro-Latinos are often forced to do so after being told they’re not “Latino enough” or being asked to choose between being Black and Latino.
Afro-latin@s struggle with being ignored by the media because for some reason people don’t believe you can be both Latino and Black. This is why there’s so much controversy when it comes to race and ethnicity. People try to paint Latin@s as this light brown or even white skinned when there are many dark skinned Latin@s. They are in all parts of South America, Central America, the Caribbean, & in North America (Mexico). Unfortunately, these folks aren’t represented in the media much and we have portrayed Latin@s in a certain way that has shaped the thoughts of others when they hear that word.
now feels like a good time to bring up that both the pokémon and ghostbusters franchises literally would not exist without autistic people. just a fun fact that i really wish was more well-known.
not sure how to word this without sounding like an ignorant asshole….
im planning out a story and
do i possibly have any Aboriginal followers who are willing to tell me about the culture theyve grown up in, the dialect(s) they may speak, and the troubles they face here in australia?
i dont personally know any aboriginal people, and while my story isnt ABOUT aboriginal people in modern australia, australia does exist in the world im making and id like to include at least one australian and have them not be a caricature of what i ‘think’ aboriginal people are like/live like…because i really dont know much at all.
You know, when I was a kid in fandom and I saw a popular ship of, say, a 16 year old and a 25 year old, I was like “of course there’s nothing wrong with this! Age is just a number! Besides, it’s only 9 years!!!”
But now that I am an adult, I’m on the other side of that age gap, and frankly I am disgusted. If you’re a teenager, trust me I get it- it’s really easy to see that as ok especially if your identified as “mature for your age” but let me tell you it is not. It is not ok for an adult to be in a romantic or sexual relationship with a child. At all. That adult is 100% taking advantage of that teenager and is competently aware of what they’re doing and it’s gross.
