The Indiana state legislature is considering an authoritarian bill that would essentially allow police to kill protesters with zero accountability.
Republican senator Jim Tomes introduced Senate Bill 285 in January, though it was given its first committee hearing on Wednesday. The bill authorizes city officials to use “any means necessary” to break up a group of 10 or more protesters blocking traffic, “even to the point of costing lives.”
Keep an eye on this bill. Keep an eye on it’s progress and it’s refutations and it’s inevitable day in court if it gets passed.
This is what I call a canary bill. If it passes both the legislative and judicial branches of the government, it serves as a hallmark on how far gone we are. If it passes the state and is deemed constitutional by the Supreme Court, then we have passed a point from which we cannot return.

SCOTUS doesn’t rule on laws until lawsuits based on them have gone through the lower courts. They’re not a preemptive body.
If you live in Indiana, you need to be calling your state reps every day about this. I mean it. You need to put so much pressure on them that the prospect of voting yes on this bill paralyzes them with fear.
It’ll be too late by the time this issue gets to SCOTUS. Stop this shit now before it starts. CALL YOUR FUCKING REPS.

14 years ago, my sister and I came to the United States and, due to political reasons, we had to come here without our mother. She was always supposed to follow us after, but it became politically impossible. Because of this we haven’t seen her since 2003.
But now, for the first time ever, we have a chance! Now my mom has a visa, and we need to get her out quickly. This is the first time I’ve felt hopeful that I would be able to see my mom again and form a relationship with her and it’s scary, but exciting! That’s why we need your help!
