18 U.S. Code § 1466A - Obscene visual representations of the sexual abuse of children
(a)In General.—Any
person who, in a circumstance described in subsection (d), knowingly
produces, distributes, receives, or possesses with intent to distribute,
a visual depiction of any kind, including a drawing, cartoon,
sculpture, or painting, that—
(1)
(A)
depicts a minor engaging in sexually explicit conduct; and
(B)
is obscene; or
(2)
(A)
depicts an image that
is, or appears to be, of a minor engaging in graphic bestiality,
sadistic or masochistic abuse, or sexual intercourse, including
genital-genital, oral-genital, anal-genital, or oral-anal, whether
between persons of the same or opposite sex; and
(B)
lacks serious literary, artistic, political, or scientific value; or
attempts or conspires to do so, shall be subject to the penalties
provided in section 2252A(b)(1), including the penalties provided for
cases involving a prior conviction.
(b)Additional Offenses.—Any
person who, in a circumstance described in subsection (d), knowingly
possesses a visual depiction of any kind, including a drawing, cartoon,
sculpture, or painting, that—
(1)
(A)
depicts a minor engaging in sexually explicit conduct; and
(B)
is obscene; or
(2)
(A)
depicts an image that
is, or appears to be, of a minor engaging in graphic bestiality,
sadistic or masochistic abuse, or sexual intercourse, including
genital-genital, oral-genital, anal-genital, or oral-anal, whether
between persons of the same or opposite sex; and
(B)
lacks serious literary, artistic, political, or scientific value; or
attempts or conspires to do so, shall be subject to the penalties
provided in section 2252A(b)(2), including the penalties provided for
cases involving a prior conviction.
Most recent conviction seems to be May 2016. That’s this month.
When abusive adults in fandoms prey on the children in them, try to spread that it’s okay to draw child porn of the child characters, to sexualize the child characters, they are breaking the law and encouraging minors to break the law. The law doesn’t care if you use it as a “coping mechanism” (even forgetting that abused people can become abusers themselves). This is illegal and it can get you imprisoned.
Please boost this. Not enough people know the law exists and big-name artists routinely bully people, survivors, minors into believing that spreading child porn in their fandoms is okay and to do it themselves. It’s not, and it can get rebloggers arrested for possessing and spreading obscene visual representations of the sexual abuse of children.
For international artists: whatever website you’re using has to follow the laws of the country it’s based in, and that means you have to work within those laws too.
At the very least, I know this is illegal in New Zealand too. Also, look at this quote I found while I was researching to make sure those laws applied to drawn images too (they do): “regardless of the nature of the image it is still child pornography and should never be minimised.”

I have a love-hate relationship with this movie. On one hand it’s got awesome PoC characters who defy racial and gender stereotypes. It also discusses colonialism and how people tend to destroy indigenous cultures to obtain land and resources (which is why the crew ultimately decided a to pretend they never found Atlantis because they don’t want anyone else to try and destroy the culture). But on the other hand, the whole plot is that Atlantis needs a white, cishet man to save it from extinction and for some reason he understand their culture and language better than they do.

I’ve been trying to tell people this for years. Also, what differentiates Milo’s experience from the white savior complex is his expectation and his attitude. When looking for Atlantis, the last thing Milo expects to find are people. He says the most they thought that they would find are carvings and pottery. And he would have been happy with just that.
And even when he finds the Atlanteans, he treats the culture and people with the utmost respect (peek the scene where the crew has their audience with the king). He never tries to interfere in the people’s way of life nor change them. He’s merely an observer fascinated with the culture/people and just wants to know more about them.
In most movies, the white savior comes into the situation with an attitude of superiority and only through his interactions with the native people (and a lot of times a beautiful native woman) is he humbled and then eventually brought in as an honorary member of the people. Milo never asks for thanks or wants to make a name for himself. He does what he does because he loves it and it’s a way to keep his grandfather’s legacy alive.

Disagree. People can still genuinely care about you, like you, and want to be with you, but everyone also has their own lives, struggles, and obligations. It’s extremely unfair and unreasonable to make a loyalty test out of whether or not they drop everything for you whenever you snap your fingers.
Of course it is important to find people who support you when you need it, would try their best to help in an emergency, and enjoys your company, but nobody is capable of being your 24/7 emotional emergency responder. That doesn’t mean they don’t care or don’t want to see you; and remember, part of a good friendship/relationship is that you support and encourage them in their own lives (which includes giving people space to pursue their goals), just as much as they support and encourage you in yours.
