The sexualization of little Asian girls, especially Japanese, Korean, and Thai, is honestly so revolting. These girls can’t even wear their school uniform without being turned into some Western dude’s Lolita fetish. And you know what, “fanservice” anime where the girls are tiny and innocent but still highly sexualized doesn’t help the problem. It’s not “just a cartoon” because media doesn’t exist in a bubble. It contributes to the harm of real little girls because Western men go overseas to rape young girls who are being trafficked precisely because of the prevalence of this fetish through media. Stop the sexualization of innocence, school, and youth and let these girls have a childhood without gross adult men getting off to them.
Could you talk a bit about organizing portfolios? Like how much work is too much work to put in it? Transitions between mediums? Do people use a website as a portfolio? Or do more people have it live on a flash drive? I'm a little overwhelmed.
I formatted it after googling other storyartists who had landed the same jobs and internships at the studios I applied to.
Put 5-10 examples of your BEST stuff in your portfolio. 5 very strong examples are better than 5 very strong+5 mediocre. As you make more work, update your portfolio!
Your website can be a blogspot, a tumblr, even a deviantart but here’s the kicker: It must be SPECIFIC for the position you are applying for. If you do concept art and animation, make one site for your animation and one for your concept. I like blogspot because I can make specific tabs for my story, concept, and resume stuff.
If you are doing animation, lighting, or other CG FX, compile your best work in a single video, a demo reel. Keep it short, 1-2 minutes, and unless you’re doing animation with dialogue leave out music and sound effects. (most recruiters turn off the sound when they’re going through reel after reel after reel)
If you are meeting someone in person to interview, bring either a printed version of your portfolio or a tablet to view the website on. (I’d go with printed, cuz paper doesn’t lose battery)
In her defense, she had just flown into England from Turkey, which is why she was wearing the scarf at the airport (and that pic is of her in Turkey). And an airport employee told her she had to remove her scarf and show her passport. Once the employee realized she was a white woman, they left her alone.
She wasn’t trying to pull a Rachel Dole Juice, but basically saying, if I was actually someone who wore the scarf for religious reasons that would have been 100x scarier.
I saw the headline expecting to start clowning her, but she wasn’t being extra… at least not this time.
It’s sad that it only becomes valid and newsworthy when a white woman says it b/c there are tons of reports of Muslim women being profiled and harassed and people just disregard it b/c it’s coming from a brown person.
