fellas, is it gay if you literally yeet yourself into another plane of existence while screaming your best bro’s name to talk to said bro?

The gifset going around about Tom Holland is fake.

He never said he had a partner with they/them pronouns, and it was captioned because it was a fan request from a Tom Holland fanblog.

Furthermore, doing this to your faves makes them look bad if misinformation spreads around. Celebrities aren’t your goddamn plaything, and they lead real lives. They aren’t just a fucking character. It’s disrespectful.

On Twitter people were doing the same thing to gifs and images of Millie Bobby Brown—an actual literal child—making her say all kinds of negative, nasty, and homophobic shit. People thought this was real, and it was getting so out of hand that people were harassing Millie (a child) on Twitter badly enough that it made her deactivate her Twitter account.

Not only is it disgusting to pretend that celebrities are your playthings—characters for your enjoyment to superimpose whatever ideals you want onto them—but it’s inherently terrible when you’re manipulating their image, careers, and lives.

A child was harassed on Twitter because of it. Doing things like what was done to a gif set of Tom Holland isn’t harmless. It has repercussions. Quit treating actual real-life people like toys for your enjoyment.

I reblogged that post and this makes me really fucking angry

This is the danger of getting so wrapped up in celebrities and fandom in general.

I saw the ask that generated that gifset in a post the original maker made to clarify it was fake, and the person was like…saying “this is really self-indulgent but I want Tom Holland saying this” and like…TOM HOLLAND. Not Peter Parker, not Spiderman. TOM. HOLLAND. They specifically wanted a fake gifset of their favorite celebrity saying things that I’m assuming they would find validating.

I want to make it clear that I’m not faulting the IMPULSE here. We all have celebrities we admire and having them agree with our views or say validating things about people like us can mean a LOT. What I’m faulting is a) posting that thing that was supposed to be self-indulgent for that one person to social media and b) the way people are taking this celebrities-as-characters-not-real-people thing to new heights

We’re far from the first generation to fantasize about celebrities to the point we hardly see them as real, and we definitely won’t be the last. But with the fact that so many celebrities FEEL so accessible to us via social media (and that’s all it is, a feeling, a fantasy, it’s not real), and how easy images and posts are to manipulate and disseminate, we’ve GOT to be more responsible. These things cease to be harmless the minute they’re made public. You’re opening people up to get hurt, both the celebrity and anyone who might be a fan of that celebrity.

I could add a whole bit in here about not letting your life revolve around fandom, but others have said it better than I could.

TL;DR: we’ve got to realize that the self-indulgent fantasizing about celebrities people have always done has the potential to be much more harmful in the social media age, and we need to be more responsible as a result.

this is what plays when you’re dying and your life is flashing before your eyes

*puts this on my End Of The World playlist*

Ok @peachcrushedvelvet is 100% accurate but here are several other situations I feel this beautiful creation could apply to

1. End of the world type of experience as noted above by @nero-neptune i.e. meteors falling and people running, things exploding and desperately trying to survive

2. Desperately running through your house avoiding attackers (guns, projectiles, of some type)

3. You’re in a library and you accidentally knock something over which knocks over all of the shaves domino style and you’re running down the hallway with them falling in the background.

Everybody please contribute

4. You finally experience love at first sight, but they’re in the middle of a bank heist and you’re getting caught in the cross fire

5. You’re getting arrested in roller skates at the laundromat

6. Intergalactic space travel in the form of a gay cruise

  1. you are falling off a very tall biulding

ok not to be that Art Teacher who over analyzes things, but Keith’s drawings were incredibly good for literally taking 5 seconds to draw each prompt and honestly this just proves that he must be an AMAZING artist because if in a few seconds he can draw out a believable blade of marmora and Haggar and Red Lion then if you give him an hour he could produce da Vinci level drawings and in this essay I will
