Yeah, they still aired it. I bet any money they knew he was trans and were counting on that coming up, perhaps only for tokenism rather than drama, but I have doubts.

Just coz they played the role of “look what such good allies we all are” doesn’t mean they didn’t just exploit a trans person and leverage transantagonism for ratings.

Zeke applied for the show without telling them he was trans because he wanted to be Zeke the survivor contestant and not just the trans survivor contestant. It was after the producers contacted him to say they were interested in casting him that he revealed it only to the producers. So yeah, they knew he was trans, but not because of the drama or as a token, they were already going to cast him before they knew because he wanted to make sure he wasn’t cast just to be a token.

Zeke and Jeff Probst (the host) had talked about how he would be able to decide whether or not he wanted the fact that he’s trans to be part of his story and when it would be revealed on the show if it would be revealed. Unfortunately, he couldn’t pick when because Varner outed him.

They kept it in the show because Zeke wanted it to be aired. Zeke got to decide with the producers and the help of GLAAD how the episode would be handled and they had been discussing it since the tribal council happened when the show was filmed 8 or 9 months ago up until it aired yesterday. He was happy that because his tribemates came to his defense and he was able to speak about his own feelings about what happened that something positive came out of a horrible situation and that’s partly why he wanted it aired. 

Here’s an interview he did on The Talk earlier today where he talks about how he felt and why it was still aired. And here’s the essay he wrote for the Hollywood Reporter. In the tribal council (7:33-9:30) he talked about his feelings of wanting to be just Zeke the contestant when he applied to the show.

This is the post that OP is referencing. You’ll notice that the fucker doesn’t even link to it – all because their precious paraphrasing turns out to be a giant-ass lie. Nowhere in there did the conservative in question say anything about ‘nukes’ or nuking someone – it was your garden-variety conservative fool conflating same-sex relationships with inability to reproduce. In came a mass of LGBTQIAP+ people soundly mocking the conservative in question by taking their ideas and laughing at them by turning them into the plot of a dystopian adventure. People will probably recognize it as the wildly popular post that lead to the expression of ‘Bisexual Buccaneers from Both Ways Bay.’ 

Reading all of the replies also doesn’t reveal a single person posting anything about any ‘f****t island’ or using the word at all. Not surprising – exclusionary shriekers on here have turned insulting themselves and blaming those insults onto another group (bisexual, pansexuals, a-spec people) into an art-form. I’ve seen it happen over and over again, with cricket chirps or insults when you ask for direct links to proof. 

So, here we have it. LGBTQIAP+ people are no longer allowed to use humor in order to cope with conservative dipshits, because exclusionary shriekers will call us ‘demons’ if we ever dare do so. 

Like the very first two replies on the referenced post are “where is this gay island located… asking for a friend” (mocking the first post obviously, also obviously from a gay or m-spec person), then a long-ass reply that kicked off the whole mockery train, very thoroughly mocking the original post mostly from joking about lesbian island (by a woman who’s married to another woman), followed by more people piling on OP and continuing the joke. Said post has been widely considered a good example of “answer them with mockery” (it’s shown up off of tumblr), which is a fucking proven tactic for dealing with bigots, especially ones not in punching range. (Online, “polite arguing” and “insulting back” rarely work, but turning them into a laughing stock does). 

(The original “wow I have so many questions” was the aforementioned second mocking poster, who was mostly asking stuff like if the lesbians have trees and if so can they build boats and declare war on straight island)

So to recap: OP of this post thinks non-gay lgbtqiap+ people have no right to defend themselves from straight assholes, that fighting against homophobes is somehow magically homophobic, and that we should just let bigots be bigots rather than publicly mocking and shaming them. And that calling every member of the community who isn’t a gay man “demons” is somehow not horribly bigoted
