if it was made to degrade the culture then i would be all up in arms about it but its not, it was a pun. it had barely anything to do with the holiday. there is a such thing has being TOO PC to the point of not doing -anything-.

also why do people always bring up race and oppression? thats not what it was about so why are you trying to make it be (‘it’ being the purpose behind the pun, not the reason behind the celebration)? yes he’s white; that doesnt mean he personally oppressed anyone. in fact, hes american- cinco de mayo is generally regarded as a mexican celebration, but its observed by mexicans and americans alike as it played a part in the american civil war, so wouldnt this, in a small way, also be a part of HIS culture? its a large part of mexican culture, but they do not exclusively OWN the holiday.

You wanna know what oppression looks like?

I swear people get on my muthafuckin NERVES with this. Oppression is when your RIGHTS are being violated. Everything outlined in the Bill of Rights and the Constitution is what you are entitled to. If you are being denied any of these than you are oppressed. 

Oppressed is not what happened to your ancestors. Its not an INHERITANCE. It is an ONGOING ACT that’s used to VIOLATE your RIGHTS as a PERSON. Its not your right that everyone uses language you approve of. Its not your right that everyone stop what they’re doing because you’re offended. That is what we call a courtesy. Something that kind, intelligent, and compassionate human beings practice. 

But you are NOT entitled to it just because:

You’re not white

You’re not cisgendered

You’re not heterosexual

You’re not religious

You have the right  to be angry. 

But you are not fucking oppressed if someone makes a joke that gets you butthurt. And honestly, its kind of insulting to the people who actually had to live through REAL oppression. Like being torn from their homes and slaughtered like animals. 

Oppression is not: “A black girl made fun of me in 8th grade for being white :[“

Oppression is not: “Someone on tumblr made a joke about Justin Bieber having a vagina and I’m trans*” 

Oppression is not: “UNDER GOD IS IN THE PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE/PEOPLE KEEP SAYING MERRY CHRISTMAS AND I DONT CELEBRATE—”

This post cannot oppress you. Because this post cannot do ANYTHING to you except hurt your feelings and potentially make you cry. That’s it.
