While I find a lot of things problematic with this post, i’m going to address the main part that really struck me, and that is “ What we have seen has been an extraordinarily and kind of insultingly generic rehash of this particular cliche.  (I’m thinking of Karkat and Terezi’s conversation in Openbound, her fucking shinji spasms, “why won’t you die”, etc.) Then, upon hitting bottom, she has decided that what she really needs to do to get her groove back is to murder Gamzee. (??????????)”

As someone who has been stalked and suffered through emotional abuse many times, I feel insulted by the suggestions here that terezi’s reactions are cliche and ‘generic’. 

‘shinji spasms, really? When I was still dealing with my stalker, there was a point that I got so low, so hurt, and was so powerless that all I could do was scream at him. I threatened to kill him many times, I told him to go die just as many. Are you expecting Terezi to act rationally with Gamzee? We’ve just watched as Terezi pulled herself up to face Gamzee, face what he did to her, and get catharsis and justice for it. And what happens? Gamzee is being controlled so he has NO REACTION. In her eyes, her pain, her anger, does not affect him at all. He still just smiles. She, once again, has no power. Even with all her work to push herself up to face Gamzee, he makes her feel powerless. She is looking for any way to get a reaction out of him, to make Gamzee feel SOMETHING for all the pain he’s given her. In the end, all she can do is scream and attack him. If she had magically gotten over all this because of karkat’s and dave’s talk with her, THAT would have been cliche. 

I’m really failing also to see how karkat’s and terezi’s conversation in Openbound is cliche. Because Terezi is feeling inadequate in face of her ancestor? Remember the very first thing she said- that ‘everyone loves her’. At this point, Terezi has just healed her eyesight, which means she felt inadequate and worthless (‘i took the only thing cool about me and got rid of it’), and now she sees her ancestor who, from her point of view, everyone loves, looks to have gotten over any problems she had with ease, and is happy. I can hear Terezi going ‘if she can do it, why can’t i, why am i struggling with this?’ which of course, would only lead her to feeling more inadequate and worthless. There is a logical progression here.

From everything I’ve seen, Terezi’s mindset has been a very logical and sad progression. Even before the gamzee/terezi dynamic got introduced, we saw her initial conversation with Aranea and the guilt beginning there. We saw Terezi had to see the future where she didn’t kill vriska in order to kill Vriska- she wouldn’t have done it otherwise, because she didn’t WANT to kill her. Vriska was her friend, at least at one point. 

While, yes, I can agree that the gamzee/terezi dynamic came out of nowhere and probably needed more foreshadowing or something in order to not make it so abrupt, terezi’s arc has not been cliche, generic, or illogical.
