Klink is a little more complicated.

Klink spontaneously came into existence “about 100 years ago” which roughly corresponds with the industrial revolution, since Pokemon is set in a parallel present. It’s also said in the anime that Trubbish spontaneously comes to life in garbage pits.

Okay so … the way a lot of media franchises work is that they have sort of a series bible that explains the finer points of everything, and it’s boring to just dump the series bible right out in the dialog so they’ll allude to a singular concept from different angles so that those concepts give you a glimpse of the whole idea.

Pokemon has been doing that for a while, and finally drove it home in Gen 5.

There’s this concept in Pokemon that Pokemon spontaneously come into existence as a result of the existence of another thing. This concept is never explained clearly and outright, but it’s hinted to at several points. The origin story of Voltorb and Klink are good examples, but so are Pokemon like Mr Mime and Vanillite.

Pokemon come into existence to reflect memes from the collective human consciousness. Real birds exist and humans understand that so new Pokemon come into existence that are based on real birds. You may also conclude that the animals that most Pokemon are “based” on could’ve been driven to extinction by their Pokemon counterparts, which is in no way supported in the games or comics or anime, but would be a reasonable conclusion.

Okay but wait there’s more!

Legendary Pokemon only exist because their legend exists. It’s like a chicken/egg problem. The lore of a legendary Pokemon makes it real. Arceus only created the universe because the people of Sinnoh believed it to be true, and it retroactively became true.

There’s this optional story thing in Heart Gold / Soul Silver where Cynthia talks about the connection between Johto’s Unown and Sinnoh’s Arceus legends, and how the two might be related. We then see a swarm of Unown bringing a new Arceus into existence - one totally different from the Arceus featured in the previous game.

Remember in the anime movie when Unown had the power to make dreams a reality? Pokemon exist as a result of human dreams and language and Unown are the manifestation of that concept.

That’s how Pokemon work.

Yes! YES! This is exactly what I’ve been thinking this whole time! Except my theories go a bit farther to say that the Unown are actually what run the universe, and that the chaos that created the egg Arceus came in is actually the dimension of Unown! After it was created, Arceus was able to continue from there, but the Unown still have that exact power as before, which explains why the ruins of Alph were created by worshippers of them, because they really are an all powerful deity.

Read that again and then come back and tell me again why I should just shut up and take a joke when a comedian blows off rape as a big deal, or women’s bodies are casually treated as commodities in media. Remind me why I shouldn’t care about the very real harm that society’s treatment of women and sexual assault does.

Let’s talk about this, shall we? I’m 16 years old. Since the age of about 13 when i would walk down the streets at midday by myself i would sometimes get honks from guys. At the time i’d think nothing of it. In fact it’s almost flattering right?

Then i got older and guys in my class started grabbing and slapping my ass, or making comment about my ‘tits’ and legs.

When i was in year 9 at school (about 14 years old) i was on the bus, in my school uniform and was pushed to my knee’s by a male while his friends circled me to make sure nobody saw. I punched him in the genitals and was suspended from my private school for doing so.

Nobody cared that i had been assaulted on a public bus. 

Then i grew older and inappropriate comments kept coming, but now it was from people i didn’t even know. I’d walk down the streets in jeans and get cat called at.

In summer, i’d wear shorts and would be called a slut and a whore. Again by strangers. Sometimes girls would be embarrassed to be seen with me, or ‘friends’ of mine wouldn’t to come near me because i was dressed like a ‘slut.’

Fun fact: I am a virgin. When i say no, i mean it. If the boy continues doing so- well, i grew up with two older brothers- and i know self defence. But i shouldn’t have to know self defence. I shouldn’t have to ward off unwanted attacks. I’m 16 years old and i have to deal with anxiety issues now whenever i have to leave my house. 

I go to a different school now, and i wear clothing that is not ‘slutty’ it is not ‘revealing’. The skirt i’ve been wearing is just above my knee’s. Most of the shirts i wear are singlets or tee’s. Yet when i walk by myself, boys will yell out ‘slut’ or ‘mmm i like those legs’ or girls will tell me to ‘put more clothes on’.

Today i decided this was going to change. I came to school dressed up in the most provocative clothing i owned. I revealed a lot of my skin and myself and wrote on both of my legs ‘STILL NOT ASKING FOR IT’. 

Why would i dress provocatively? I’m practically asking for it now aren’t i? No. I’m not. No matter what i wear, or who i’m with, or what i look like, there is literally no excuse for sexual harassment and sexual assault . I was told to take the writing off my legs by teachers, which i refused to do. Girls walked past me and told me i deserved to get raped or assaulted because of what i was wearing.

What has happened to respect? What has happened to culture and women? Why are girls so willing to disrespect themselves and their bodies just so a boy will look at them?

So tell me, what were you wearing when you got sexually harassed or assaulted? 

What were you doing at the time that warranted such behaviour to be directed towards you?

Tell me how i deserved it. Tell me it’s my fault. 

I’m only 16, i don’t want to have to deal with this for the rest of my life. I should not be scared of walking alone. I shouldn’t have to get warnings from my parents to not go out past dark. I shouldn’t have to be worried about going out and being called a slut or some one trying to grope me or comment on my appearance.

Because no matter what, i am not asking for it, and at the end of the day a no is a no. This doesn’t make me a tease or a slut. 

What boys do to you against your will is their call.

Their judgement, not your fault at all.

I am biased against this because I used to be the smart kid but I do not find this to be funny at all. When I “finally” failed a test, all of my classmates except for my one best friend were making a huge deal out of it. They acted as though it was something unthinkable. They were looking at me as if I had grown another head. It made me feel like I wasn’t allowed to get a bad grade. I had to be perfect, or else I was weird. In the end, I was so stressed because of the pressure I even considered commiting suicide. It wasn’t pressure from my parents, they were okay with it. It was from my classmates who couldn’t grasp the fact I was only human.

So please, I’m begging you, if you have this smart classmate and they fail a test, do NOT laugh at them, do NOT insult them, do NOT make a big deal out of it. We’re all humans, we all make mistakes—don’t take this entitlement away from us.

OH MY GOD

Believe me, you do not need to remind the smart student(s) how badly they’ve done in class. We and our parents do enough of that. 

You do not need to gloat about how we failed or did less than expected on a test. We’re already beating the crap out of ourselves because EVERYONE has come to expect that we’re fucking geniuses

I got an 80% on a test while five other students got higher marks than me and they were so surprised like “I can’t believe I got a higher mark than you” and “Wait, that’s your mark?”

THE ‘SMART’ STUDENTS ARE NOT PURPOSELY TRYING TO MAKE YOU LOOK STUPID SO DON’T DO THE SAME TO THEM
