On Tuesday, the FCC moved to repeal Net Neutrality rules that prohibit internet service providers from blocking or slowing websites, or charging a premium for “fast lanes” for specific services or higher quality streaming.
FCC chairman Ajit Pai, who Trump appointed this year, officially proposed the revocation of these rules, which treat internet service providers like Comcast and AT&T as public utilities. The rules could be scrapped as soon as this December when the FCC meets to vote on Pai’s proposal. The vote is expected to go in favor of Pai’s proposal.
“Today, I have shared with my colleagues a draft order that would abandon this failed approach and return to the longstanding consensus that served consumers well for decades,” Pai said in a statement. “As a result of my proposal, the Federal Trade Commission will once again be able to police ISPs, protect consumers, and promote competition.”
Pai and his fellow opponents of Net Neutrality argue that the rules, which were passed under the Obama administration in 2015, hamper competition and lead to worse internet access overall by restricting internet providers’ behavior. “These heavy handed regulations have made it harder for the private sector to build out the networks especially in rural America, and so by going back to the previous regulations more, a more light touch approach, the Internet access is going to become better,” Pai told Fox News Radio in an interview.
Supporters of Net Neutrality, on the other hand, argue that the rules are essential for an open, democratic, and competitive internet. Allowing service providers to throttle speeds, or give some sites advantages over others, makes it harder for new entrants to enter the field and ultimately hurts consumers, they say.
While this is true its not too late late please call yoir local congress men its as easy as going to battleforthenet.com or if that gets too flooded go to callmycongress.com. Please net neutrality is so Important.
today is Nov. 15. the FCC, under chairman Ajit Pai, will not listen to the public despite millions of comments in support of net neutrality. They are going to try their hardest to kill net neutrality, which in turn will kill the internet, which in turn will help eradicate democracy. it won’t just affect Americans, it has the potential to affect the entire internet, something we ALL use daily. you can bet your ass other countries will see america doing this, and use it as an excuse to do it in their own countries.
this is what buying a plan without net neutrality looks like there:
you have to pay MORE for features you’re already guaranteed to have under net neutrality. and in america, you already know how expensive everything is.
democrats AND republicans both want net neutrality. advocacy groups in touch with congress have said that if your members of congress receive calls from you, they are more encouraged and more likely to take action to stop Pai’s plan to gut net neutrality. after Nov. 22, it will be MUCH HARDER to convince your member of congress.
hey guys, please reblog this version and don’t forget to call!!! if you are nervous about calling, you can use resistbot to send faxes to your reps and thestance appto pre-record your message so you won’t have to speak to anyone. (available in both google play and app store)
Okay what the heck is this shite. This is like going to a grocery store and having to pay $5 to access the vegetable isle, then $10 for access to cereals, $5 just to access the checkout counter, and the checkout counter’s racks of gum and periodicals are free for the first three months but then $5 per month after that (read the fine print on the “social” tab). Like… WHAT AND HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE?
sometimes…… when you keep testing people to see if they will leave…. they will leave…… sometimes… people will leave you… because you’re a bad person…. sometimes people will leave for no reason…. sometimes people will leave because you expect too much from them… sometimes you might need to acknowledge… that friends aren’t your therapist… and did not go through 12 years of training to handle your meltdowns… and you need to find a way to reasonably communicate when you’re feeling unwell if you really like this person, trust this person, and want them to stay around you… having a fear of abandonment cannot be something you tell them to lock them into your orbit.. you need to take responsibility for the things you say & how you treat people… its that simple
Why do grown ass adults want to eat Tide pods so much?
Because a ton of the visual/olfactory/textural sensory information these pods give me the match nutritionally-dense fruit. It’s got the oleic gleam of something high-fat like an avocado, but bright carotenoid-rich coloration like a berry that wants to be eaten by red-seeing primates and birds. It tends to smell sweet and slightly floral, enhancing that effect. Similarly, when you hold it, it is quite dense (denser than water), but very soft and liquid, once again reaffirming that this “fruit” has either high sugar or high fat content and almost no cellulose to it.
As a result, within me is a less-clever monkey just screaming to eat this delicious fruit in my hand about to go into the laundry, and it does in fact take willpower to tell him he’s a stupid monkey and this is a bubble of foul-tasting poison. But every time I do laundry, this fucking limbic monstrosity rises again and assures me it’s basically like a cherry but Even Better. I have legitimately debated just biting down on one in the hopes of inducing a deterrent memory to forestall this urge in the future, but that’s what my goddamn mammal-brain wants me to fucking do and I refuse to let it win.
