this is Hourou Musuko, an anime/manga about a young trans girl and her friends, all figuring out their gender identity and sexual orientations
yo yo i just double-checked and it is a real thing and also available on crunchyroll for free!
It’s also on KissAnime for free which is a website I recommend 1000 times more since they provide HQ anime without having to pay anything, and they have a wider selection than Crunchyroll
I watched the first episode. I can’t vouch for the rest of it but the first episode made my heart swell a bit. A lot of it is about finding those people that you can make your guides and role models, and that’s not something I feel like we get to see a lot, we see the kids just left to forge through on their own in the big and scary.
Wavedash why did you do this to me.
The anime seems to grab just a slice of the full manga’s story (obviously) but despite Horou Musuko being one of my favorite manga of all time, I never did finish the anime. I didn’t think it was all that interesting an adaptation, and it’s so good as a comic.
The Horou Musuko manga is not only good, it’s really important. It follow a transgender girl and a transgender boy and it follows them encountering and stuggling with:
dysphoria
trans* objectification
the intersection of gender identity and sexuality
passing
puberty
what adult life will be like as a trans* person
experimenting with (“trying on”) gender signifiers
evolving identities
binary questioning
being a partner to a tans* person
All while mired in Japanese society and expectations.
But if you don’t have the money, I know you can easily find scanlations online, which are translated all the way to the end (Fantagraphics is about half way.)
That comic about trans* youth you were always looking for?
I’ve been seeing this image passed around a lot tonight, and I wanna curb it before it gets too huge and people get disappointed.
This image is fake.
It’s edited, and (to my limited knowledge) no dialogue of that sort has appeared in a Wonder Woman comic. This is the real page:
DC Comics currently has one canon trans character, and that’s Alysia Yeoh, Barbara Gordon’s roommate.
Would Wonder Woman’s feminism include trans individuals? Absolutely.
But it hasn’t been addressed in the canon, and passing around edited panels is only gonna make DC look much more progressive than it is, and let me tell you, the vast majority of their comics are not.
This is society for everything, if you are considered “conventionally attractive” than whatever you do it’s appealing. However if you are considered to be less attractive than whatever you do it’s wrong.
This deserves so many notes. I have heard all of the black quotes behind my back. It’s really demoralizing.
I think it’s important to highlight tho if you get the kind of comments in the red text, the second you step out of line in Straight Cis Boy of the minute’s mind, you stop being cute nerd girl and start being SLUTTY FUCKING BITCH WHORE SLUT BITCH
The way men dismiss women who arent considered conventionally attractive is foul, but being the Red Text Girl is not fun. It’s not better or worse than being dismissed, it’s just sexism in a different shape.
Sure it looks nicer on the surface, but the second he finds out you play the wrong video games you’re a fake slut who talks about gaming for attention, the second he talks to you and you’re too shy to reply you’re a stuck up bitch who thinks she’s too good for him, the second it turns out you just sat behind him in class because… well, that’s where the empty seat was? You’re a tease. You probably only went to that convention so you could slut it up in your cosplay. You only topped your class because the teacher wants to fuck you.
Everything you do being appealing when you’re cute is only appealing to the point someone realises you’re an actual person not a shallow Manic Pixie Dream Girl Fantasy.
Being dismissed is shitty and disgusting, but Legit can we not make “Conventionally Attractive” women the enemy but the entire patriarchal system that says it’s okay to treat any woman like this.
