Happening Now (10.13.14): Thousands of students from SLU join Ferguson and Shaw protesters, in solidarity with their fight for justice for victims of police brutality. This is a movement in action. #staywoke #fergusonoctober
I’m literally ugly sobbing right now. Had to pull over just to put this post together. More to come when I get back to Florida.
things dependent people do that they literally cannot help:
ask you to come online and comfort them often
will agree with you even if they dont actually agree (a lot of lying)
will do anything to keep you as a friend even if it starts to become so desperate and creepy
will be very very very hurt if you completely leave them mentally
so dont you dare call someone manipulative for symptoms they cant help.
okay so this post is making me mega uncomfortable
the first and second points like. ok. the first is fair enough if they’re just requesting that you give them some support and you agree to it. the second can develop into something pretty unhealthy but it’s also fairly innocuous.
but do not start me on the third and fourth.
a person can have dependency problems and still be manipulative, and they can have them and NOT be manipulative. manipulation is manipulation regardless of motive.
if someone will ‘do anything to keep you as a friend/keep you around them’, and those anythings include isolating you, sabotaging your other friendships or things you do that don’t involve them, deliberately damaging your self-worth, any other kind of abusive behaviour that they use to make you unable to leave them, that is still manipulative. that is still abusive. you are still 100% within your rights to get the hell out of there.
if someone wants you to care about them and doesn’t care whether that makes you unable to care for yourself, that is still wrong.
it is not your responsibility to stay with a person who is manipulating you or abusing you just so you don’t hurt them. this post feels so much like it’s trying to tell people to just tolerate it, no matter how bad it gets, even if the other person knows what they’re doing but won’t stop. that’s really not okay.
The automatic criminalization of black and brown bodies
Now hold on a sec I do INDEED have a problem with one picture but not the other.
In the TOP picture you can clearly see two hunting rifles and a mid-sized handgun, which are perfectly reasonable guns for a family to have, and it appears that all three people in the picture are legally old enough to at least have gone to a hunters safety course, which legally justifies the weapons being in their hands for certain purposes - hunting. Hand guns are carried by hunters to defend against bear attacks, should they happen, and by fishermen when fishing in lakes containing sturgeon … because the only way you’re killing a goddamned prehistoric dinosaur fish from hell is by shooting it (no joke).
Now the BOTTOM picture clearly contains only ONE child old enough to have gone through a hunters safety course … and not a single gun that is used for anything other than killing other human beings, and this I have a serious problem with. Guns that are intended ONLY for killing humans (the AR and AK series rifles, which are shown) with CHILDREN is a fucking problem.
Now, if they were hunting rifles in the bottom picture - you know, guns that are meant solely for the procurement of food - then I wouldn’t have an issue outside of the questionable ages of the children shown.
Really huge red flag on the bottom pic is the fact two of the kids clearly have their fingers ON THE TRIGGERS.
Its called trigger discipline. I’ve never been to any gun safety classes and I know that much.
The thing about the bottom picture that scares me the most are the expressions on those kids’ faces…and that they’re posing in front of a goddamn Christmas tree
Like was this someone’s Christmas card because I would be concerned if I got that in the mail
This is a reminder that the Montgomery Bus Boycott lasted 13 months and the Civil Rights Movement took over 10 years, so next time you want to tell us to “get over Ferguson”, “its been long enough” “You’re not making any difference” remember that.
Before you start ranting about the minimum wage being to low and want it to be $15.
This should be funny but it’s too true to laugh at. Raising the minimum wage will destroy low wage employment (AKA entry level jobs).
Okay no that is absolutely not true?!
By raising the minimum wage you ensure that people can actually, you know, BUY THINGS and SUPPORT THE ECONOMY?
Okay I am literally too tired of this horseshit. You know how much McDonalds would have to raise their prices in order to actually pay a REASONABLE minimum wage?
A nickle. And not even on ALL of their food items- just SOME of them.
You assholes trying to keep the poor from trying to improve their situation make me fucking sick. Do you even KNOW HOW FUCKING CAPITALISM WORKS?
YOU PAY PEOPLE PROFIT FOR THEIR WORK SO THEY CAN BUY MORE THINGS AND PAY OTHERS PROFIT FOR THEIR GOODS AND SERVICES AND ITS A GODDAMN CYCLE. YOU DONT KEEP PEOPLE BARELY PAID ENOUGH TO BE ABLE TO FEED OR CLOTHE OR HOUSE THEMSELVES BECAUSE THAT KILLS THE GODDAMN ECONOMY.
THE WORKING FORCE IS WHAT POWERS THE ECONOMY
NOT CORPORATE SHITFUCKS TRYING TO BRING US BACK TO 1800’S WORK CONDITIONS
And some fucking empathy for other people besides yourselves. Fuck you for thinking that having to pay a little extra for a cheeseburger is more important than someone being able to live off their wages.
This is how toxic capitalism is. People think that cheap hamburgers are more important than human lives and well being.
We live in a culture that commodifies FOOD, WATER, HOUSING, and HEALTH CARE, and that SCOFFS at the idea that everyone should be able to actually afford all of those things even if they are employed.
We have a system where people think it is ABSURD to suggest that EVERYONE should be able to EAT.
