I genuinely believe that if a whole city is not safe, you should reblog every post you see a horrible situation, to let everyone know that it’s not safe.

If any of your followers are in SYDNEY CBD, and they haven’t heard anything on the hostage situation in Martin Place, then here is a post to let everyone know that you should stay as far away from the city as you can, until it’s safe.
To everyone in Sydney, please stay aware, alert & stay safe.

what’s happenin in korea

You want to know what’s happening? Korea’s education system is literally the most rotten piece of shit to ever exist.

Let me explain the context of the poster on the left.

The average time a kid spends in school in the US is 900 to 1000 hours per year, spread between 175-180 days (x)

In 2007 there were mass student protests in Netherlands because they increased the hours spent in school to 1040 hours per year, or 8 hours a day, 130 days a year. (x)

Korean high schools, on the other hand, enact a 3150 policy, 225 days of school with 14 hours a day, or from 8 am to 10 pm (x)

Also due to the private education sector of hagwons and the fierce competition of Korean high schools, basically after school kids go to hagwons, or personal academies, till 2, 3 in the morning, fit in maybe 4, 5 hours of sleep and go back to school. (x)

It was only in 2012 that schools went from having classes on Saturday excluding the first and third Saturday, and it was only in 2007 when they changed from having class every Saturday. (x)

This system is literally the epitome of the factory schooling system which comes as a result of a capitalistic schooling system and it works kids too hard which is one of the reasons Korean school kids are some of the unhappiest of pretty much any OECD country. (x)

For the photo on the right, physical punishment is not fully banned in Korea.

Since 2011, Seoul, Gyunggido, Gangwondo, and Julla Bukdo have banned the use of direct physical punishment, or basically hitting kids with either tools or physically with their body. That being said that’s basically only about half of South Korea.

Also, indirect physical punishment such as making kids to planks, make them kneel with their hands up, making them run laps, or of the sort is still fully acceptable in all Korean schools. (x)

Anybody who’s a Korean in a Korean school right now already has experience with getting beat by a teacher and some kids still have to deal with physical punishment by teachers.

14 hours a day.

14 hours a day.

14 hours a day.

14. HOURS. A. DAY.

I Just need to say these things:

- At the moment this is NOT ISIS related, nor a terrorist incident. The black flag raised was not a true ISIS flag
- If you honestly believe that the situation would be different if Aussie’s were allowed gun’s then you’re so wrong. This is one incident that has so far had no murders & is purely hostage. Even so a one off incident doesn’t make up for the however many America goes through a year. So guns would certainly not have made this incident better
- The only people currently in danger are the 13 or so people in the Lindt building
- This is also no time for racism, the actions of a few do not represent a whole culture
- Also reported that this could have been a botched attempt of an attack on a much larger place

Finally - Let police do their work, don’t panic because there is no need to panic. If you’re told to move, then move & stop recording everything on your phone or whatever

There is a current alleged terrorist attack occurring in Sydney, Pray for the hostages but do not forget to pray for the people who are going to be racially profiled because of all of the bigots in Australia who will use this act to justify their racism and islamaphobia. I’m genuinely scared that Australia just might have another cronulla riots occur soon and if that isn’t scary I don’t know what is.

This is my sister, Cheyenne. She’s 15. I haven’t seen her since she was 7. I haven’t talked to her since she was 7. Until today. We talked on facebook for the first time in almost 9 years. She had to do it in secret, here’s why: for the last 9 years my grandmother and aunts have kept us apart. It’s a much larger scale than just me and Cheyenne, though. My sister Cierra and I haven’t seen our sisters Cheyenne, Monica, and Elena since 2005. We’ve been intentionally kept apart and punished for things we can’t control and had no part in, we were told to our faces we were forbidden from seeing our sisters. Cheyenne messaged me on facebook because she’s old enough now to understand and know it’s wrong. They’re not letting her see Monica and Elena now. Our grandmother is one by one separating all of my sisters. Cheyenne, Monica, and Elena don’t even know they have two little brothers. Timothi is seven and my baby brother Zackari is 8 months old, they’ve never met their sisters and up until two days ago the only pictures we had to show them were years old. That’s where this comes in, we’re pretty poor, living from paycheck to paycheck with virtually no money to hop in the car and take a trip whenever we please, gas prices and hotel fees would be outrageous - but now there is hope. Cheyenne doesn’t live with my grandma anymore (hence her being forbidden from seeing my other sisters as well), she lives with my much more lenient aunt (who we are slowly working our way up to telling about us talking, and hopefully she won’t go off) and we have a chance to see her but no money to get there. I know this cause might not seem worthy to some of you, it might seem a bit stupid or pointless, but to me and my family it means more than the world. Cheyenne wants to see us, she reached out to us after years of us being prohibited from reaching out to her. We want to raise money so my mother, my step-father, my sister, my niece, my little brother Timothi, my step brother Charlie, my little brother Zackari, and myself can go to Arkansas and see Cheyenne again. (And maybe, if we’re lucky, Monica and Elena too.)

I’ve set up a gofundme with a goal of 2500 dollars to cover the cost of gas, hotels (or probably motels), and food for the trip. you don’t have to donate, you don’t even have to care or signal boost this, but i had to post it, i had to give it a shot because, like i said, we’re desperate.

somebody told me gofundme is pretty picky about donation amounts and suggested i also make a paypal donation page/button so here is that.

It’s no coincidence that the central survivors at the end of the film aren’t tough white male patriarchs like Wilford or Curtis, but are Yona and Timmy: the polar opposites of the ruling classes who took charge of the train 17 years ago. Curtis is simultaneously a messianic cliche and a takedown of white saviour heroes, because the most important thing he does in the end is kill himself in order to save future generations from more of the same old bullshit.

He is a product of the train — in fact, the film makes sure to point out that Curtis can’t remember life before he was onboard — and as a result, he’s an asshole. He’s a brutal killer, and he has no qualms about meting out petty punishments like making Mason eat a cockroach bar while everyone else has sushi. The difference is that unlike Wilford and Gilliam, he recognises that he’s been corrupted by his surroundings. His drive for vengeance and power is the tool that frees people who otherwise might never have escaped: Yona and Timmy, the two great innocents of the movie. But if he’d survived as well, he probably would have turned into another Wilford.

 The fascinating dystopia of SNOWPIERCER.

it is so important to me that a korean girl and a little black boy are the final survivors and representation of the innocent in this film - Yona in a fashion that isn’t fetishizing or infantilizing or robbing her of agency, Timmy at all in defiance of society robbing black children of their childhood by assuming that they have no innocence at all and aren’t worth protecting
